Sunshine Sunday - family hikes, the smoulder, and calzones

At the beginning of the week we went on a little family hike so we could see all the changing colors.  Wow.  It was incredible.  I know I've seen it before, but it really amazes me each time.

When being a mom seems frustrating and the tasks feel mundane, I like to remind myself that being a mom is really like being a tour guide.  I get to show my boys everything for the first time.  Then motherhood seems like a fun privilege.  When I see this picture I just think...welcome to your world, little boy.  It's bigger and deeper than you can ever imagine.

On a funnier note, I introduced Rex and Baden to the movie "Tangled" a few weeks ago.  Rex doesn't like anything to do with princesses, so I had to emphasize the whole prince and fighting knights part.  Anyhow, he's been working on his "smoulder."  What do you think?  Creepy or cute?  I can't tell :)

And lastly, when I got lunch with my sisters the other day we went to one of my favorite places - the Rusted Sun Pizzeria in Salt Lake.  It's a tiny little place with the most amazing calzones.  We celebrated the fact that my sister Cassie (the one whose home you saw remodeled) found out she's having a GIRL.  She has two boys like me, so this was "shopping news."

It's been a good, busy week.  Tomorrow I'm going to show you Rex's completed costume.  He's pretty excited....and so am I.

Thank you for reading.

  2. What a fantastic smolder! My three-year-old daughter always puts a blanket over her head and says she's "the bad mother" from Tangled. It took me a long time to realize that was where she was getting it... for awhile she was just saying that she is A bad mother, and I was heartbroken! Haha.

  9. WOW I absolutely love those hiking pictures! We don't really get beautiful leaf changing colors in Texas, but that is just beautiful. And that smoulder picture... a little creepy, not gonna lie. My fiance makes a face like that to creep me out, and your son did a perfect job of the same face lol.

  18. The hike is Bell's Canyon in Sandy. It's a fairly easy one because my kids can walk it. There's a reservoir up there and it's beautiful. The hike starts from Wasatch Drive.

  19. I like the thought that being a mom is like being a tour guide! It's fun to show our little ones through life and watch them experience things that we take for granted with such wonder . Thanks for the thought and the great posts!
