Feature Friday - Painted Wooden Bead Necklace

I pinned this necklace on pinterest quite a while ago.  The original is from HERE at Laura Parke. Well, I finally got around to making one myself.

It was easy and fairly fast.....

.....except that those little balls kept rolling around on me while drying.

Photo Editing with iPiccy

As I mentioned before, I really like iPiccy and picmonkey for photo editing.  However, when it comes to more complex photo editing, iPiccy is my favorite.  Here are a couple of before and afters, along with video tutorials on exactly how I editing each photo.  I mention a lot of my tips in the videos.

This was a picture I wanted to use in my unique photo wall HERE.

Here's what I did.

Wake Up Wednesday

Last week's challenge was to walk away from something time consuming for a while.  I tried to unplug for a couple of days, which was actually nice.  It's a hard thing for me to do because I get really backed up on emails and start to feel overwhelmed when I do check in again.  However, I do think that there's a better compromise.  I think I can check my email a little less often.  It's easy to just sit down when you have a second, but then you can get stuck in that seat for longer than you intended.  Anyhow, it was good to give that all some thought.

This week's challenge is a challenge I posted here over a year ago, but it's a concept I've been thinking about a lot again recently.  So, here's an oldy but a goody :)

This week's challenge is to refrain from speaking negatively about others.  Yeah, that's a big one.  It's so easy to analyze other people's actions and make comments to others about them.  Sometimes it's just a little thing, but my mom used to make us evaluate whether what we were saying was kind, necessary, and true.  Yikes.  That cuts out a lot of conversation :)  For me there's a goal that's even bigger than this that I've been thinking about a lot lately.  I have come to the conclusion that is it really important for us to believe in each other - not to criticize or analyze, but to believe.  Believing in others helps them rise to their potential.  I have witnessed some amazing changes in others when someone chose to believe in them.

If you'd like to share how last week's challenge went, just tell up about it in the comment section.  And thank you so much for visiting my blog.  You guys all really help, encourage, and uplift me.

Sunshine Sunday - tubs, my niece, and photo bombers

Well, the highlight of this week has been watching my boys hang out with their cousins.  There's been a real shortage of play dates this summer without them around.  It was a tight squeeze, but I got all four of them in the tub together for a bath last night.

I took a few shots of her kids the other day.  Her little girl, Millee, is so stinkin' cute.  Unfortunately she's not for sale, though I did ask :)

This little guy of hers is so hilarious.  He's been singing the "Save big money at Menard's" jingle all week, which cracks me up.  It's not a store we have in Utah, but I did grow up hearing that commercial in Wisconsin.  It hasn't changed in thirty years.  Ha!

Sharing Saturday

Time for another round of Sharing Saturday.  This time we're picking a food theme.  Here we go!  Tell us what you know.

1) What do you pack your kids for lunch?  Or if they aren't in school, what do you do for snacks?  We happen to be in a snack rut and my boy are big time snackers.  I run out of ideas sometimes.

2) What's your favorite quick dinner to make?

3) Is there anything you've tried (recipes) from Pinterest that's really as great as it claims to be?  Feel free to share the link.

Thanks for stopping by and pitching in.

Feature Friday: Silhouette Promo and My Nephew's Room

So it's time for a Silhouette promo, in case you've been waiting to buy one.  AND, it's a great one.  Here's the deal:

1 CAMEO, 1 roll of premium transfer paper, 1 roll of black premium vinyl, and 1 roll of white premium vinyl for $269.99 (MSRP  $344.96)!  This promotion will run from August 23 through the 31st

Just go HERE and use the code "ROAR."

And all vinyl is 40% off when you use the promo code as well!

So, I've been hanging out with at my sister's this week and she recently got a Silhouette.  We put a little finishing touch on one of her son's rooms with some vinyl.  These little wooden arrows were purchased in the craft department at Wal-mart.  My sister painted them with watered down black paint (just like I showed you HERE).  Then we added a little vinyl with cities that have family members in them.

It matches the vintage transportation theme of the room really well.  Here's a sneak peek at the rest of the room.

Wake Up Wednesday

Last week's challenge was to find someone who was struggling and to find a way to help.  We had a few opportunities come our way, but one involved a friend was is making some big life changes.  We got to help paint a new place for her.  Rex asked if he could help and he was pretty proud of his work.  No worries - it was only the primer.

This week's challenge is to walk away from something time consuming for a while.  Let me explain.

This is one I kind of need.  I remember a few years ago before blogging my husband and I would surf the net and then we'd get sick of it and declare that we had "come to the end of the internet."  Well, recently I've come realize that I don't ever come to the end of the internet anymore.  There are always emails to answer, posts to write, pinterest to search, and other blogs to read.  Sometimes it's overwhelming.  So, I'm going to try to stay away for a few days.  I have posts written ahead of time, but it I don't get back to your emails or questions you'll know why.  Sorry!

As far as the challenge goes, maybe it's a different thing for you.  Maybe it's turning off the TV more to get something done.  Maybe it's dropping something to spend a little extra time with the kids.  I think it's always good to step back and reevaluate at times.

So, did anyone find a way to help someone last week?  I love reading your experiences.   Thanks for being here.

Painted Glass Mugs

It's no secret the we have a superhero obsession in our home.  The boys have loved the etched superhero glasses I made HERE.  We decided to take it up a notch and try out the glass paints by DecoArt.  We made these and each family member got to pick a design.

I received this huge box loaded with all their new glass paints, some brushes, and some stencils.  The glass paint comes in different finishes - frosted, glitter, opaque, and glass stain.

Today's auction item comes from Heather at Feather's Flights.

Heather's blog is full of awesome sewing tutorials - especially lots of excellent baby ones.  She's got great ideas and a mean set of skills.  (Sidenote: Look at her ridiculously cute dimples.)  Heather has generously donated two different baby cardigan onesies......

Sunshine Sunday - fries, school, and cousins

This little guy has been trying to make me laugh lately.  It has to be on his terms, because he's a little sensitive and doesn't want to be laughed at unless he's decided it's funny too.

Yesterday he hung out in this old Halloween costume for a while.

He even rode the trike around wearing it.  It was pretty funny.

Sharing Saturday

It's time for a Sharing Saturday!  I loved reading your comments and suggestions last week.  This week we have a reader question and a couple from me.  Here we go:

1) We have a reader who is looking for potty training tips.  I think we talked about that once here a long time ago, but it's always great to have more suggestions and ideas.  Tell us what you know!

2) Are you good at exercising?  If you answered yes, would you say that it's because you love it or just because you're disciplined?  How do you make it work in your life/schedule.  Honestly, I feel like exercise is always the ball that gets dropped for me.  I'm debating purchasing an elliptical, but I want to make sure I can be committed before spending the money.  What your exercise of choice?

3) Do any of you have any personal experience with in vitro?  That's kind of a big question, I know.  Maybe I'll explain all that another time, but if you've done in vitro I'd love to hear your experiences.  If it's too personal to post here you can always email me.

Thanks ahead of time for your responses.  I love being able to tap into so much knowledge.  You guys rock.  Thanks for dropping in.

Mommy School in Action - part 10

This will be our last installment of Mommy school for the summer.  School is on the way and while I still plan on working with my boys, I'll just be following up on what they learn at school, rather than coming up with my own lesson plans.  So here are our favorites from Mommy School this week.

1) River Raft.  I found this idea HERE at Handmade Charlotte.  All you need is cardboard, tape, and empty water bottles.  We didn't have duct tape, but I used packaging tape to laminate the top.

I let Rex decorate a piece of paper, which I set on top of cardboard and then wrapped with packaging tape to seal it.  Then we taped on our empty water bottles.  Since ours were little ones, we had to point them in different directions to balance the raft.

We filled the kitchen sink with water and Rex got out his Squinkies.  They were the perfect toys for this activity.  He was happy to play in the sink with them for quite a while.

Where to Find a Wooden Spool and How to Use It in Your Home

Back when I showed you my master bedroom reveal HERE a month ago, I also showed you the spool I got for free and used as an end table.  Well, I thought I'd give you the low down on how to find a spool and what you can do with them.  I've seen some pretty sweet projects using them and I almost want to go out and find a few more.

Here's mine:

When I got it, it looked like this.  While the top and bottom are actually wood, the middle was cardboard.

I painted the middle yellow to match the room.  I also debated over not painting it, but running rope up the middle.  I may do that another time, but for now I like the pop of color.

Wake Up Wednesday

Last week's challenge was to do something you don't like doing with someone who does like doing it.  The main idea was to say yes to those things you usually say no to.  Rex has a serious addiction to Icees/Slurpees.  Well, he had one probably a month or two ago and thought they were the best thing ever which means he has begged for one on a daily hourly basis ever since.  So, we headed down to Burger King to get one.  (Did you know they have Icees there?  Better then going into the Seven Eleven for a Slurpee in my opinion.)

Then we headed to the grocery store that has those little carts.  I know I sound like a mean mom, but I hate those little carts.  I become a traffic director all through the store and I risk losing my ankles as the boys follow me too closely with their carts.  I let them use the carts and pick out a couple fun items as well.  Can you tell how much they like these carts?

"I Deliver" tee

Baden starts his first day of preschool tomorrow and I remembered that when Rex had his first day I made him a special t-shirt HERE.  So, it's Bade's turn.  I tried to think of things he's into.  He loves riding his trike around the house pretending he's a delivery truck driver.  So, here's what I came up with.

I cut the freezer paper stencil on my Silhouette, but you could do it by hand with a craft knife.  (For a video tutorial of freezer paper stenciling you can go HERE.  For a tutorial on cutting freezer paper with the Silhouette you can go HERE.)

I ironed the stencil to the shirt (shiny side down).

Today is our 10th "For the Love" auction.  (If you need a refresher, you can read the whole explanation HERE.)  In short, we're auctioning off a beautiful item each Monday of the summer from a talented blogger.  The proceeds will go to a great cause and you'll find some new blogs to follow along the way.

Our last auction was won by both Heathers!  We'll be in touch.  Thanks!

Today's auction item comes from Rach at Family Ever After.

I got to meet Rach at Snap.  She was SO cute and really kind.  Her blog covers a lot of topics ranging from DIY and crafts, printables, recipes, travel, fashion, decor, and more.  She has a great sense of humor and she's the kind of girl you wished would move in next door.   Rach has generously donated this nursing shawl......

Sunshine Sunday - you, sweet moves, and swimming

First of all, thank you so much for all your fun, helpful, and funny responses to Sharing Saturday yesterday.  You guys have some very specific fears!  Sorry if the spider picture made any of you jump.  And thanks for the boot recommendations.  You guys always have great advice.

We had a busy and crazy week, but the sweet dance moves of my boys can always make me smile.  Here's a short, sweet example of Baden's current moves.  He's been into dancing lately and it cracks me up.  Don't worry - it's short and I promise you'll laugh.

I was so proud of my little guys for conquering swimming lessons this week.  Baden hated the first day, but he went back like a champ and ended up loving it.  I was thrilled about that.

Thanks for reading.

Sharing Saturday

We haven't had a Sharing Saturday in a long time around here and I sure miss them!  If you're not familiar with the concept, I (or one of you readers) submit questions and then everyone answers in the comment section.  It's always fun and helpful to hear everyone's suggestions.

Let's get started!

1) What boots would you recommend for winter?  Do you have a pair you've bought and love?  Can you handle heels or do you stay with flat ones?  Do you have a pair that's super comfortable?  (You guys had great suggestions when I asked about flip flops, so I thought I'd get your advice on boots, too.)

2) What's your biggest fear?  (I just thought this one would be interesting to read.  Spiders aren't my biggest fear, but this picture makes me cringe.)

3) How do you decide how many activities to let your kids participate in?  How much is overbooking them?  How young did you start them in various activities (music classes, swimming, soccer, t-ball, etc.)?

Thanks for your responses and input.  I love reading through your experiences and advice.  I hope you're having a great weekend.

Feature Friday - My Mom's New Pattern

So my mom's at it again.  She's releasing a rockin' new pattern today.  It would make the best baby gift EVER.  So, if you sew you might want to pick one up in her etsy shop HERE.

She's drafted and redrafted the pattern and it's perfect now.  The sewing level is beginner and her tutorials are really easy to follow.  It's full of great tips as well.

The cover fits every carrier we've tried it on so far.
