What I Love Wednesday - Happy Lists

Back when I was in college I had a blank poster I taped on my wall.  I added the words, "Things that make Cheri happy" and every day I would add something to it along with a little picture I'd draw.  I wish I still had that poster.  It made me smile just to look at it and read through the things.

I think gratitude is so important to our happiness and I don't feel like I've been keeping tack of the things I'm grateful for as much lately.  So, I thought I'd make a little list here to get me started and then start a list by my bed again that I can write on at night.

So here are 5 things that make me really happy.

1) Green Turn Left Arrows.  What's not to love?

2) How when one of my kids is being a total punk, the other seems to notice and becomes so kind and helpful to me.  The boys were fighting today and Rex was driving me crazy.  Baden came over and said, "I'm going to try really hard not to be mean, Mom."  Thank you.  You can have all the inheritance, son.  :)

3) Popsicles.  I'm sensing an addiction for the summer.  We are going to be making a LOT of popsicles.  I just can't get enough of them.  Plus, it's nice that you can make them pretty healthy, too.

4) Pictures.  Sometimes when I feel down I just scroll through the pictures on my phone and it makes me really happy.  I love that it doesn't cost anything to capture memories these days.

5) I only have about 3 weeks left until I get to meet Elsa.  I'll probably be induced the first week in June and as things get more and more uncomfortable it's nice to know that we're not that far off now.

So, do you have a way to keep track of things you're thankful for?  Do you keep a journal or jots things down?  I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks for reading.

  5. Looking good girl. I so wish I could have had as many photos of my child, I love all the free photos. My goal this year has been to print some and just put them in a basket so everyone can look at them. Looking forward to seeing little Elsa.

  6. I had to laugh at #2. That happens all the time at our house. Looking back at pictures always makes me happy. Laughing and playing with the kids does too.

  7. When I was a baby my mom used to to a journal and write to me when eve r she could. I still have that journal today and sometimes when I miss her a lot I just pull out that journal. It's so nice to be able to write things down. You should do a canvas art and hang it up in your room somewhere so you can see it everyday when you wake up. Something about being thankful for green traffic light arrows makes me smile too!

  8. I can't believe you only have 3 weeks left of your pregnancy. I think you look amazing! You really don't look like you're 8 months pregnant. Good luck! On the gratitude note, I have a couple different ways I keep track of things. I journal, a lot, but I also have a thankful jar. It sits on my mantle and when me, or anyone, has something to be thankful they just add a slip of paper with their gratitude to the jar. When I'm having not-so-great days, I just read that little jar of notes!

  9. You look great! You can tell a difference in your face since you guys started your clean eating. You look so healthy. Yay for Elsa's arrival! I'm also pregnant with my third and my husband wants to start eating better, so hopefully I won't get as huge as I did the last two times.

  10. You're looking great! I'm so glad you're getting close to getting to meet Elsa! I love the happy list idea. In high school, I collected emails, letters, notes, and other stuff in a binder and called it my happy book. I've also listed things I was thankful for in college. I usually start them up when I'm having a rough stretch--like one of the things that I was thankful for in college was that I hadn't failed the test THAT bad. :) I'll need to start something up again, but I write in a journal pretty often too.

  11. I can't believe it!!! I was JUST thinking about those posters you made for me and you a couple of days ago and thinking that I wish I still had it! Ha! I will have to start keeping track again too. They always made me smile to look at except the whity tidy pic!

  13. We have started a new tradition at bedtime we share one thing that made us happy and one thing we are thankful for and I record them in a little journal. It has made a big difference in our home. Plus it is really fun to look back and read them. Anything goes so if my two year old is thankful for bacon then that is what I write down. I might let them start adding pictures now too! Thanks for the idea!

  14. I totally wish I did! I'm thinking of starting a way to capture happy thoughts right now. I'll make sure to post about it when I do. Being a full-time SAHM, part time work from home mom and full time wife- gets a bit stressful- having happy reminders, I think, would be a very healthy reminder for my heart! Thanks for the post. And YOU LOOK AMAZING!!

  15. There is an app you can get called 1000 gifts (it's free and is the picture of a nest). It's a great way to record what you are thankful for everyday. And, if you're interested, the book is an awesome read too! It's called 1000 Gifts by Ann Voskamp.

  16. That poster sounds fantastic. I used to have a notebook. I could use one now. It's wonderful, when you are sad about something, to look at all the things that make you happy.

  17. Hello! So, I guess I am what bloggers call a "stalker". I read, but I never comment. Sorry. I have two boys--just turned 3 and almost 5--so I love to read your blog ( a bit sporadically, I admit) because I always feel a connection to moms-of-boys, which, it sounds like, you soon won't be! Congratulations! I LOVE the name Elsa, it was our girl name for the first born (we didn't find out the gender and I was so surprised by a boy). Anyway, we now know two darling little Elsa's, whose names were influenced by hearing our choice :) so you have a winning name chosen--enjoy that little sweetie when she comes.

  18. Hi! I hope you and your new baby Elsa are doing fantastically! I've been thinking about this post since you wrote it- I've put your idea into practice and honestly- it's really made a huge positive change in my life. Thank you so much for this post. It moved me so much, that I blogged about it myself and of course gave you credit and linked back to this post! So this is how we do it. I hope you enjoy-
