A few months ago I was browsing through Anthropologie and I saw a really cute necklace. The price was a bit high, needless to say, but I figured I could recreate something similiar. I wish I could show you a picture of the original, but it's already off their site. Anyhow, here's mine. The concept is the same. I started with the bare three-strand chain.
Pardon the abbreviated tutorial here, but it's a very "free" concept. In fact, I'm just going to tell you how to assemble it and you can strap on any ribbon, button, or flower you like. (There are 5,456,231 tutorials on different types of fabric flowers you can refer to in the craft blog world. I just counted them all :)
The basic idea is the you want to make a felt and hot glue sandwich. Glue your flower or button to a swatch of felt and then glue that felt to another piece of felt, with the necklace sandwiched in between. Got it? That's it! It's a fun way to use up your favorite little scraps of fabric you've been holding onto.
Need a cheap necklace to start with? I highly recommend Forever 21. They have a billion choices and their jewelry is really inexpensive.
Here's my sister modeling it for me.
Isn't she beautiful?
