Loopdeelou Display and more FREE tickets

As I mentioned before, my sister and I have started a small hair accessory business called, "Loopdeelou."  We are going to be at the "What a Woman Wants" Expo in Sandy, Utah this Friday and Saturday.

We wanted a big display that would catch people's attention.  We also needed a way to display pictures of people wearing our headbands and we wanted to put up some mirrors, since every girl has to try things on before she buys them.  So, here it is:

Here's how it started.  We bought a 4'x8' sheet of foam board at the Depot.

We made our decoupage solution of glue and water.

We bought an old encyclopedia from DI for pennies.

We decoupaged the pages on.

Then we decided to add a little color.  We mixed more glue and water and added a little blue acrylic paint.

Then we made the bus and took silly pictures of each other modeling the headbands.  We used the pictures to look like windows on the bus.  We glued on cheap mirrors.

We bought some polyfil and spray glue to make clouds around the mirrors.

The yellow sun was left over from a baby shower I had.  (If you live in Utah and want like 12 of those in yellow, orange, and pink for free - let me know.)  It's made from paper bags.

That's about it BUT if you're thinking, "Nice Cheri, but this has nothing to do with me."  You're wrong!  You could use these same concepts to make some really cool, cheap art for your house or your child's room.  You could use the foam board as a headboard for your bed.  (My sister did this a few years ago with modge podge and tissue paper and it was really cool.)  The massive sheet of foamboard is $20 which is a whole lot cheaper than a canvas.  It accepts acrylic paint well, but not spray paint.

Most of our headbands are soft and stretchy, but we do have some hard ones, too.  Here's a sneak preview.  We WILL be selling our stuff online as soon as the show is over.  I will post the link when the store is ready.

I also still have some tickets to give away.  (If I contacted you before as a winner, they are in the mail and you should get them in a day or so.)  If you want some tickets, leave a comment saying you'd like some, but MAKE SURE I have a way to contact you.  That means you need to have your e-mail address linked to your profile OR just tell me your e-mail address in your comment.  I will mail 2 tickets to the first 5 people.

Can't wait to meet some of you there.  Have a great day!  Thanks for dropping by.

  18. I know this is a little late, but perhaps you can use it in the future. I found that a nice way to display pictures was to use a digital picture frame. You can borough one from home and have a separate card always ready for events... Since the image constantly changes it draws people in to look at them. Not that your hairbands won't do it... they are beautiful and quite unique.

  19. Thanks for sending me the tickets. They arrived late in the afternoon yesterday, 'cause that's when our mail comes, so my only option was to go today.
Believe it or not, my husband went with me this afternoon. We amused ourselves making jokes about, "This must be what a woman wants . . ." We heard other people making the same jokes amongst themselves, so I guess we really aren't that clever, sigh.
My husband was intrigued by Kim the cold-blooded birthday party specialist (reptiles). I loved most of the displays, but not all. Maybe because I nursed my children, I loathed the cosmetic surgery booth's slogan of "Got Milk with that Muffin Top." That was just too crass for me!
Anyway, your table was hopping when we went by. The headbands looked marvelous. Hope you sold lots and lots.
For my mother's mother's-day present I bought a green quilt tack thingy from the people to your left. (If you know them, tell them you sent me.) It was a bit pricey, but she and her sisters, cousins, and mother will love it when they put on a cousins' quilt.
So that is my report. Hope you don't mind long comments. Thanks again.

  21. I saw you over at V and Co and was just checking through your cute blog. I just have to tell you that I went to What a Woman Wants on Saturday and was a bit disappointed at the generic stuff there, that is EXCEPT for loopdeelou (I hadn't heard of you before), I even picked up your card because I thought your stuff was so cute and original, I can honestly say you had the cutest stuff in the whole place, just had to tell you.
