Stencils are pretty popular right now and it's easy to see why. You can get a beautiful custom look without spending a lot of money. It's way less expensive than wallpaper and you can paint over it when you change the decor. I was thrilled to try out a stencil from Royal Design Studio. I chose the Indian Floral Wall Stencil. Here's where I used it. (The faux-armoire will soon be painted pale gray. I can't wait!)
When I was a little girl, my mom did professional stenciling. I asked her to help and she brought over her trusty airbrush. This made the whole project a lot easier. (NOTE: In the past I tried a stencil from another company and tried to use a foam roller as directed. It was very frustrating and the results weren't good.)
If I didn't have an airbrush, I would do what they did at Young House Love HERE. Stencils are really time consuming, but the result is so worth it.
After spraying it one or two times we took the stencil down to blot it on a towel. Then we'd start again. We covered the flowers with freezer paper and tape for the first layer and then went back to do them in a different color later.
Here's a closer look.
The flowers match the pew, which I can't show you right now because there's still furniture blocking it (from moving it all to get the carpet installed). I'll show it all again once I paint the armoire. And it looks like Rex is sniffing the new carpet :) Hmmmm...
