Royal Design Studio - Review and Giveaway

Stencils are pretty popular right now and it's easy to see why.  You can get a beautiful custom look without spending a lot of money.  It's way less expensive than wallpaper and you can paint over it when you change the decor.  I was thrilled to try out a stencil from Royal Design Studio.  I chose the Indian Floral Wall Stencil.  Here's where I used it.  (The faux-armoire will soon be painted pale gray.  I can't wait!)

When I was a little girl, my mom did professional stenciling.  I asked her to help and she brought over her trusty airbrush.  This made the whole project a lot easier.  (NOTE: In the past I tried a stencil from another company and tried to use a foam roller as directed.  It was very frustrating and the results weren't good.)

If I didn't have an airbrush, I would do what they did at Young House Love HERE.  Stencils are really time consuming, but the result is so worth it.

After spraying it one or two times we took the stencil down to blot it on a towel.  Then we'd start again.   We covered the flowers with freezer paper and tape for the first layer and then went back to do them in a different color later.

Here's a closer look.

The flowers match the pew, which I can't show you right now because there's still furniture blocking it (from moving it all to get the carpet installed).  I'll show it all again once I paint the armoire.  And it looks like Rex is sniffing the new carpet :)  Hmmmm...

Royal Design Studio has a TON of gorgeous stencils.  The selection is amazing.  So, if you'd like to win one head over THERE and come back to leave ONE comment on which one you would pick.  If you leave an extra comment accidentally, be sure to delete it.  The winner will receive a $50 stencil with free shipping.  The winner will be chosen randomly in one week.  Be sure to leave a way for me to contact you.

GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED.

Thanks for dropping in.

  16. Not to copy you, but I would also choose the Indian Floral Wall Stencil. It would look great in my daughter's room - but I would do the swirled leaves in the same cotton candy pink color as her walls (but in a gloss) and the flower centers in the darker pink that is her accent color. I think it would be kind of subtle (especially on only her small wall between her closet and door) but add a real punch to her room! - THanks for the giveaway!

  59. Cheri,

Two things I love to do in home improvement is wallpapering and stenciling.
I decorated my daughter's nursery in rabbits. My MIL sent me a First Year calendar and my SIL send me a pattern book with the same pictures done in cross stich. I loved them! Well, to decorated, since we were a militry family (If you live in base housing it is similar to renting - you must return any changes back to the original state before clearing Housing at the end of your tour of duty there. And you have to have permission to make any changes to start with.), I decided to stencil and choose the picture of the rabbit family. I made my own and stenciled that pattern in two different houses while she was little. We have moved 12 times in 15 years. :( If I knew how to send you a picture I would but my tec-nology is very sad.
All this being said, I really like the new look and can't wait to see the reveal. Just FYI, I liked your house the way it was before also.

    Maureen

  60. I love how this turned out! I've always wondered how people do the multi-color stencils without it taking hours to pain each individually. You solved that easily by covering the colored portion up.

I want the Ribbon Lattice Stencil in my bedroom. I think my husband will agree with that one.
