Today we are going to yank out a pair of ugly shoes from your closet and give them a new look. Ready? Here we go!
My mom got me these shoes a while back, but I never had anything to go with them. (Sorry Mom!) I decided to take matters into my own hands. I love flats and I wanted something a little more funky.
1) Stuff your shoes with papers so the inside doesn't get painted. I also taped off the base area around the edges, so that would stay the normal color. See the scotch tape below?
2) Pick a fun color of spray paint and go crazy. I was surprised that these shoes took a lot of coats. I think it's because they have a lot of texture.
3) Find some embellishments. I used this crochet trim from Wal-mart, a thin grograin ribbon, and two large buttons. I weaved the ribbon into the trim.
4) Hot glue it all on. I liked the way the buttons looked off-centered.
That's it. It was a pretty quick project and I love finding a way to use things I already have. Thanks for stopping by! If you haven't entered the play sword giveaway, you should check it out! Have a great day!

very cute!
ReplyDeleteThose look so cute. Great job!
ReplyDeletetotally cute and a fab idea!!! are they comfortable? did the paint make them sratchy on the edges? just curious.
ReplyDeleteVery cute. I'm wearing a pair of comfy, brown ballet flats right now. But the brown is scuffed up a little. And I'd really like some white ones instead...I feel a project coming on!
ReplyDeleteThese look great - nice work
ReplyDeleteDo you think you can paint leather shoes...or faux leather? I have a pair of heels that I love...but they are just a drab color. I have been thinking of fixing them up, but I'm not sure how it would turn out. Anyone have any ideas?
ReplyDeleteHow adorable and fun!! Very creative!! A girl can never have enough flats!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely adorable! I never would have thought of painting shoes.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific idea. I especially love the buttons. Not to mention I've been in to that color green lately.

ReplyDeletethey turned out soo cute! great job. I am probably the only woman in the world who hates shoes, but maybe taking some old shoes and spiffying them up would be fun and make them into shoes I might actually wear.

So pretty! I love the color you chose...perfect for spring! I had no idea you could use regular spray paint on shoes. I've spray painted sandals before, but I used shoe spray paint from a shoe repair store. Good to know for the future!
ReplyDeleteThe best of recycling! And really shows the power of paint! But the "dressing" is what really made the difference. Well done! Thanks for sharing...I've posted a link.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this! I just got a new pair of shoes I love, and now I want to get another pair just to paint them red! I wasn't sure spray paint would work for canvas, but this gives me hope. Thanks again!
