Mommy School Monday - Spring Activities

Now that the weather is warming up a bit, it's so nice to get outside.  I'm sure we still have a little snow coming at some point, but this teasing warm weather has been awesome!  So, here are five things to do with your kids outside.

1) A Spring Scavenger Hunt (found HERE) that I posted about two years ago.  Wow, time flies.  I think I need to do it again!  This one was a lot of fun, hunting down all the items in our yard.  I used an egg carton for Rex to hold all of the items and to display what we were looking for.  You can customize it to your own yard by taking photos of the items you have.  Head to the original post for more info.

2) Our Superhero Scavenger Hunt (which is found HERE) has been the most popular thing with Rex.  I think we did one of these probably 20 times last summer.  I'm not joking.  The clues are pretty simple to come up with and it would keep him happy for about a half an hour or more.

3) Here are a couple of toys you can make in no time with what you have lying around the house.  Read more about it HERE.

4) Here's another twist on a scavenger hunt - an Alphabet Scavenger Hunt (found HERE).  Pull out some chalk and have your kids find something that starts with every letter of the alphabet.  The boys liked this one as well and now that they are a little older it would probably be a lot easier for them.  I think it's time to try it again.

5) Last but not least, the other day we headed to the park with our chalk and I drew out a little obstacle course for them to do with their bikes.  I remember making these myself as a kid and riding for hours.

There was a section to weave around the dots....

...and a spot where you had to get off your bike and jump ten times.....

...and a narrow bridge to drive over.  You know, it's really whatever you can think up in the moment.

So here's to getting some fresh air!  Do you have any games your kids love to play outside?  I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks for dropping in.

  1. Thanks for the fun ideas. My kids are a little older but they still love scavenger hunts so these will be a hit.

  2. I used your super hero scavenger hunt last summer with my son and he still talks about it, such a great idea! I'll definitely have to try the bike idea. My son's been riding on 2 wheels since he was 4 (he's 5 now), but for some reason this spring he's being very cautious about it. This will get him to stop thinking about it so much and lose that fear he's built up over the winter. Thanks again for the great ideas :)

  5. I do an outdoor scavenger hunt with my son (who's 4) with a camera. I have the list of items and read each thing off to him as we go, and then he hunts it down and takes a picture. Like, we need to find something orange....so he looks around till he finds something orange (flower, traffic cone, etc.) and takes a pic of it. So we're not actually collecting things, just the pictures.
Wish we could have snow, it was 94 here today...not ready for summer!!
