Wake Up Wednesday

Last week's challenge was to pick a cluttered area of your home and organize it.  I picked our back door closet.  It's been that place we stuff things when they don't really have a place they belong.  However, the closet wasn't very useful that way.  Here' the before.  It's not totally hideous, but we just weren't utilizing the space well.

I got a couple of bins for the top shelf.  Then I moved things that didn't need to be there to the basement.  Lastly, I put in the things that we really need there - cleaning supplies, church bags/binders, games, etc.  It feels much better to me and now there aren't as many things piled up on the mudroom bench.  Victory.

This week's challenge is to do something for Earth Day.  Maybe you want to pick up some garbage along the road.  Maybe you could plant a tree.  Maybe you could take the bus somewhere instead of driving.  There are a LOT of options.  Go for it!  Feel free to share ideas in the comment section.

"Man must feel the earth to know himself and recognize his values.... God made life simple. It is man who complicates it."  - Charles A. Lindbergh

How did last week's challenge go for you?  Did you conquer an area of your home?  Let's hear about it!

Oops, I think I had my weeks backwards because last week we planted a peach tree & blueberry bushes, but this week I'm planning to build a shoe shelf for my hall closet. :)

I organized my dresser. The bottom drawer had stuff in it from YEARS ago... and thats all it was. STUFF. I threw almost the entire drawer out and am packing away the "memories"-- a photo album, some old mix cds... etc. I also found the manual to my DSLR that I got 6 years ago. It was still in the package. I spent a good amount of time going, "So THATS what that button/dial/random object on my camera does?!"... even after taking 2 years of photo classes, haha. Thanks!

As a child care teacher, our theme for our room this coming week is "Going Green," so I've got it covered =).

I reorganized my daughter's room, and went through all her clothes for stuff that was too small.

As far as Earth Day, I think I've got it covered. We cloth diaper so we're cutting out a lot of disposables in landfills.

I loved the last challenge! I can always used some more tidying up. This week I arranged all the books on our bookshelves in the living room. We have 3 EXPEDIT shelves from ikea, so in each cube I put different colours on books. It actually looks much better this way! And I designated on full bookshelf for children's books, so the little guy has his own shelf.

The Earth Day challenge sounds great. I really want to plant something in pots on our balcony with my son. I think it would be fun to do together and a great lesson for him now that he can understand that the plants are growing. :)

I cleaned up my office - my husband and I have our own business and moved into a new location 1 yr ago, after having moved our home 2 months prior. During both moves, I had a hysterectomy and then last Juen I have a brain tumor removed. So needless to say organization has not been a major priority. However, this past week, I organized my office - removing 2 past years papers and storing them away. Reorganized the files so that even my husband can location files. then I actually got my taxes turned into our accountant on time - no need to file an extension - yay me! This weekend we went to our lake property and did yard work, a little painting and reorganizing of a much needed messy bedroom (its the only bedroom in this cabin). And I make a personalized fire ring which you can check out at my blog :

it isn't much of a blog yet as I have just started this year. but I have more in me - just dying to get out!

I decided to rebel and do exactly the opposite and clutter the crap out of my room with clean and dirty laundry.
And by 'decided' I mean 'phbbbbbbbbt ihatelaundry rawrrawrrawr' aka 'fell behind.'

I conquered the sewing room. Lots of scissors, packs of pins and needles, fabric scraps and other random notions have found their way into a new set of white cardboard drawers. Yay!

I think this week's challenge is a great opportunity to get my veggie garden started... hopefully it's not too late for my region!

As for last week, I decluttered my son's closet and have a bunch of things for the goodwill pile. Unfortunately, I didn't get to my other two children's closets :(

For Earth Day, I am going to my kids Daycare and we are making a worm composter and then having dirt pudding with gummy works for snack. Can't wait.

well, this week I did my storage/fabric room. UGH, there is a before Picture on my blog.
beckyscraftcloset@blogspot.com along with a tutorial for a upcycled (kinda earthy) hoodie, the same one I made for your challenge. I am planning on doing a few more up-cycling projects before the end of the month, but I think in honor of Wake up Wednesday, I will create some re-cycling gbing in my garage. we live on the outskirts of a small town, so no one recycles around here, but I think my kids would really get into it.

This challenge last week came right on time, because for the past month, my husband and I have been living in his parents' house (deployed) for free, in exchange for organizing ten years' worth of clutter and saved-up stuff!

Let's just stay that spring cleaning hasn't been a part of this household's culture.

Good thing we have a truck. We have removed at least 1000 pounds worth of stuff that was just old, useless, broken, or taking up space.

The last room we have for this week is the laundry room/storage room. So far, so good!

The house looks great, if I don't say so myself.

Just one spot? My entire HOUSE is cluttered! I guess that is what happens when you have five kids... sigh. I am not sure where to start, but hopefully once I get the ball rolling the rest of the house will be done too! :o)

I did my whole house! Between moving and having a big birthday bash on Sunday, it needed it!!
