The Twist and Pin with Christina of Hair Romance

Our first guest for Hair Week is the beautiful Christina from Hair Romance.  She is from Sydney, Australia.  She says, "I met my husband and my hairdresser in the same street and there began my two romances."  She has beautiful ideas and recently released an ebook that you'll hear a little more about below.  Welcome Christina!

Hello!  I'm Christina and a haircut changed my life. I blog at Hair Romance about all things hair. I believe your hair is your best accessory, and Hair Romance is all about loving your hair and having fun with it. I love styling hair and I was so happy when Cheri asked me to guest post during hair week.
Today I'll be sharing my signature hairstyle “ The Twist and Pin" and I have a special giveaway for I Am Momma Hear Me Roar readers.

The Twist and Pin is my most versatile hairstyle. It's great for both short and long hair. It's so easy in wet hair and perfect for second day hair too. The best bit is it only takes two minutes to do! Add to that the time saved washing your hair and now you know why this is one of my favourite hairstyles.

This is the first video I have ever made and I have no idea what I'm doing so please be kind! I took my camera and my tripod out on Friday and the weather was perfect. I didn't take a mirror with me however, so my hair isn't perfect. I've definitely gone for a messy Twist and Pin, but with more pins you can achieve a really neat finish.

I hope you can see it really is as simple as Twist and Pin! Here are some of my tips for creating this hairstyle:

- Use good hair pins. Stronger pins make all the difference.

- It's best in wet hair or hair that's a little dirty as it has more texture and holds the style better. If your hair is clean or too soft you can use a sea salt spray or volumising powder before you start. Hairspray will add texture and hold too.

- I weave the bobby pins through each twist so they catch the hair underneath. You can also use pins through two twists to anchor them together for a stronger hold.

the GIVEAWAY!!!

This hairstyle is actually Day 29 of my 30 Days of Twist and Pin Hairstyles ebook. In May I set myself a challenge of creating 30 different styles using the Twist and Pin. It went so well I created 31 hairstyles and have now released them in an ebook so you can create these styles at home too.

The Hair Romance 30 Days of Twist and Pin hairstyles ebook is over 75 pages long and has instructions on how to create all the 30 days of hairstyles and includes bonus hairstyles too. It's full of hairspiration and tips and tricks for styling your hair at home.

I'm giving away a copy of my ebook and for your chance to win all you need to do is leave a comment below. I'd love to hear any feedback you have on my first video or head over to Hair Romance and tell me which of the 30 days is your favourite style.

GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED.
Thanks to Cheri for having me as her guest during Hair Week! She will announce the winner of the giveaway on Friday morning.  Remember to love your hair and have fun with it! - Christina

Thank you so much for your great tutorial and the fun giveaway Christina!  Just leave a comment to enter the giveaway.

  2. Twist and pin is my favorite - my mom used to do something like that in my hair when I was little, and this is such an elegant, grown-up version. Thanks for sharing, and for creating all these lovely styles for long hair. It's so easy to stay in the messy-bun-or-ponytail routine!

    ReplyDelete
  34. It certainly is fast :) I only wish you would have done one or two of the twists in slow motion or with a little more explanation. I liked the music, but found it a little difficult to read the directions and watch the motions at the same time. Maybe if it was just a bit slower all around??? Thanks for the easy new idea; I will definitely try it!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I love this. I am trying to grow out my hair and need something quick because I have 3 little girls and after doing all of their hair I don't ususally have a lot of time to do mine and make it look cute. Thanks...I will definately be heading to your blog often...

  36. I can't wait to try this, especially since it is good for wet hair. I am always trying to figure out a way to fit in a few extra minutes of sleep while still having enough time to get ready and look halfway decent before my daughter wakes up for the day. :) This could be the trick!

    ReplyDelete

  56. I remember when the only way you could get a great hairdo like this was to go to a professional and pay a ton for a special occasion. Thanks for the great tips.

  57. SO far I really love the pin curl one. Seems like such a fun idea that you can do for the everyday look and looking so put together at the playground, lol. Now I no longer want to chop off my hair, its inspired me to just throw that pony in right out of the shower :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. I would love this book!! With two little boys at home i dont have alot of time to come up with new hair ideas!! I love hair week!! Please pick me!!

  60. I grew up a tomboy, and have all boys, I would love to have something that is a little girly once in a while, even if it turns out to be my hair! :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have done the twist and pin style and LOVE it! But I have always put my hair in a ponytail first. I like the loose-looking style better (from your photos) by not doing the pony first. I need to try that. Everyone always compliments me when I wear it. They think it looks so fancy and must be complicated to do, but it's really not! Would love to see your other styles in the e-book!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. What a fun hairstyle! I really need to try this out!

  119. I love the finished result, but I know that if I were to try it, it would take me at least 30 minutes the first time! I would have loved to see up-close photos or video of how the hairpins go into the twists to hold them in place, because this is the part that I always struggle with in my thick hair. I also would love to know what kind of hairpins you use. Are they regular bobby pins, or is there some stronger kind of pin? I'm not really sure what a "hairpin" is if it's not a regular bobby pin! Details on those things would be super helpful to me, a hair novice! I love the 'do though and am excited to try it.

  128. First off...I am LOVING Hair Week! Sometimes it is so hard to come up with something for my daughter's hair and then my hair, too. I'm feeling all excited and re-energized about hair-dos in the morning! :)

I can't wait to try the Twist and Pin. I live in AZ and when it's 112 degrees outside, it is necessary to get your hair off of your neck. It will be so exciting to be able to do something besides a ponytail or a messy bun! :)

    Thanks again!

    ReplyDelete
  129. This looks really cool...I'm totally going to give it a try once my kiddo goes down for a nap! I'm digging your asymmetric styles in the pictures...especially the loose one where you're wearing a white lacy top. This would be really fun to try out!

Cheri - I loved your waterfall braid so much that I did my hair in a waterfall braid today. I did the variation where it slopes along the back. I am LOVING it! Thanks for sharing. I'm excited for the rest of hair week.

I just walked in the door from having my first highlights done since high school, and now I'm having visions of my chunky highlights in pretty twists. :-) I'd love to try the ebook too, and see what you have to say about doing these styles with different hair types/cuts (like mine, long with lots of layers!).

  190. My arm is currently plastered and I cant even do a ponytail myself... I long for the day I can try this hairstyle out! It's impossible to choose one of the 31 styles they are all so nice.

    ReplyDelete
  191. Oh cool! I had pinned that style on Pinterest a while back (along with a ton of other styles from Hair Romance!) so it was nice to see the video tutorial.

    ReplyDelete
  192. awesome, I've actually done something very similar to this and it really doesn't need a mirror, just a handful of bobby pins. Right now I have a sharp angled bob so it's not really possible, but as long as my hair is at least three or four inches long I can always count on this hairstyle. Bonus... when you take it out, curly!
