Super Heroes of Service Report

Last month's challenge for the Super Heroes of Service was to give some toys away.

Rex and I sorted through all his toys and loaded up a box.

The Last day of CHRISTmas

Oh, it's the last day of our CHRISTmas series!  I have two ideas I want to share with you today and I'm also reminding you of last year's projects (in case you're looking for more inspiration.)

I just finished getting our front door ready.  I used the same quote I did last year, but a better font.

November 28, 2011

the fourth day of CHRISTmas

As I mentioned yesterday, I have two more things I wanted to show you for the CHRISTmas series.  That means tomorrow is the last day of the series.

Today I'm showing you these blocks my parents and I made to help us remember the reason for the season.  They sit on my giant shelf.

Soapbox Saturday - Snuggletime Accessories

About a year ago we got to review some Pillow Pets HERE and HERE.  Since then my boys have used them every single night and at nap time.  I never would have guessed how much my kids would love them.  So, when I was asked to check out a couple new Pillow Pet accessories this year, I had to say yes.

Baden's Pillow Pet is named Bo-bo-honkie.  He seriously loves it and calls it by name.  If Baden has to nap somewhere that's not home, Bo-bo-honkie must be present.

CHRISTmas - Beckie from Infarrantly Creative

Today we have Beckie from Infarrantly Creative to share a great CHRISTmas idea.  I am a big fan of Beckie for several reasons.  She is talented and smart.  She's also been a really kind, helpful friend to me in this blogging world.  Last week in THIS POST I told you about her other sites she recently started.  She's upbeat and hard working.  Welcome Beckie!

Hello there, I am Beckie from Infarrantly Creative.  I was honored when Cheri asked me to be a part of her Christ in CHRISTmas series.  As a born again Christian, Christmas is a way for me to stop and focus on the birth of Jesus.  Often with the chaos of the holiday the focus of Christ gets lost in the presents and decorations.  I thought what better way to help me celebrate my Savior than to create a “12 days of CHRISTmas journal” that I can use to take time out of my day to focus on my Savior.

I had Louisa from Flipawoo Designs help me to create a printable for this purpose.  Each day of the 12 days before Christmas I have selected a passage of Scripture or a video applicable to the birth of Christ to help you focus on the real reason for this season.  On each of the 12 pages you will have a spot for journaling and a written prayer all in a cute little keepsake accordion journal.

oh come let us adore him

Silhouette Deal

If you've put the Silhouette on your Christmas list then tomorrow is the time to drag your husband over to the computer to make the purchase :)  Here's the low down.
- You can get everything (except download cards, gift cards, subscriptions, and the machine itself) for 40% off using the code "ROAR."

- To buy the Silhouette Cameo itself you have to head to the super secret web page HERE to get the deal.  It won't be 40% off, but it'll still be a sweet deal.  The deal will be there from Friday to Monday, but there's a limited number of Silhouette machines for the deal, which means they will sell out.

- Shapes in the store will be half off.  Bonus!

Happy Shopping.

Happy Thanksgiving

RANDOM NOTE:  When I mentioned yesterday that I'll be truncating posts I meant on the blog, but not through the reader.  If you're reading via a reader it won't affect you.  No worries.

Last year we began a tradition I hope to carry out each year.  I took a video of the boys telling me what they are thankful for.  You can watch last year's HERE.  It's kind of fun to see how much they've grown in a year and to hear what they love most.

I hope you're all having a wonderful Thanksgiving!  Tomorrow we'll have another CHRISTmas post and then I'll share one more idea on Monday to end the series.  Thanks for dropping in.

Wake Up Wednesday

I have started to truncate my posts (not in the reader though - just on my blog).  That means there's a teaser and then you have to click "read more" to read the whole thing.  Why?  It's not to tick you off.  I promise.  In fact, there are a few advantages.  I've had people find something from my blog on Pinterest, but when they try the link it only links to my blog rather than the actual tutorial.  People are pinning the blog and not the tutorials.....a lot.  (And, frankly Pinterest is what currently brings me the most new traffic.)

I had someone tell me she spent an hour trying to find the right tutorial and she couldn't.  That's frustrating.  So, by truncating I can make sure you're pinning the right spot.  It also makes it easier to go back through older posts because you don't have to scroll through all the full posts to find what you need. I'm really sorry if any of you don't like the change, but it's just one more click and it equals a lot more organization for me.  I'm also working on organizing the tutorial page.  That one's going to be a beast.

The CHRISTmas series isn't over, but I didn't want to skip Wake Up Wednesday today.  Last week's challenge was to make a list of 50 things you are thankful for.  I made my list early one morning.  It was a really nice way to start the day.  While the list might not be super exciting to read (and some of it feels kind of personal), I thought I'd post it here for record-keeping sake (and because one of you asked).  So here are 50 things I'm thankful for - in no particular order.

CHRISTmas - eighteen25

Welcome to Day 2 of CHRISTmas here.  We have the incredible ladies of eighteen25 here today!

If by some chance you haven't visited their blog you'll definitely want to check it out.  These ladies have a great eye for clean, beautiful design.  Their ideas are awesome and they are always sharing a fun printable or gift idea.  They have a gorgeous project to share with us today.  Welcome eighteen25 ladies!

we're the girls from eighteen25 and we are so happy to be a part of
i am momma's CHRISTmas series today.

we wanted to make something kind of BIG to help remind us of the true meaning of christmas.
using the nativity and one of our favorite christmas sayings, we came up with this fun project.
it only looks like a lot of work. we promise it was pretty easy.
especially if you have a silhouette to help you cut out the vinyl stencils.
(of course, you can always make your own stencil by printing out an image found on the internet and cutting it out with an x-acto knife.)

CHRISTmas - Kojo Designs

Welcome to the first day of CHRISTmas.  Today Kirstin from Kojo Designs is here.

These sisters (Kirstin and Jordan) are not only talented, but super fun.  They really know how to throw a party....and sew....and decorate.  Their site is full of lots of great ideas and after reading you'll wish they lived closer so you could chill with them at one of their parties.  Welcome Kirstin!

Hello I Am Momma fans! I'm Kirstin, half of the sister team that blogs at kojodesigns, and I am beyond thrilled to be here today! We lovelovelove I Am Momma Hear Me Roar- Cheri's ideas are unique, there's tons of Boy-Goodness around here, and Wake Up Wednesdays is genius. But you're here, so you already know how fabulous Cheri's blog is! Loving this place so much makes it even more fun to be a part of Cheri's CHRISTmas series...

Sunshine Sunday - mini professor Xavier, Santas who clean drains, and cupcakes

My dad was at our house helping me with an upcoming project.  Well, he convinced Rex that he could open grandpa's trunk with his mind (a.k.a. the keys hidden in his pocket to make it open on command).  I'm not usually one to fib with my kids, but this was too funny.

Here's Rex concentrating.  (Excuse the dark pictures please.)

It requires extreme focusing...

Soapbox Saturday - Babiators

My boys love sunglasses.  They wear them in the car and to the park and pretty much anywhere else I'll let them.  The problem is they break pretty easily and unfortunately we've gone through quite a few pairs. Well, we got to try out some new sunglasses that are made just for kids.  They're called Babiators and they're pretty sweet.

Here's what we liked about them.

Stand Up for Family

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of American Family Insurance for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

One of the most important things in this world to me is family.  It's where I learned who I am and where I continue to create who I am as I raise my own family now.  Whenever I see a person or organization take a stand for family and family values I really appreciate it.

Well,  American Family Insurance has recently posted a group of family comedy videos you can watch.  They are videos that the whole family can enjoy.  (You won't have to cover your children's ears as they listen along.)  The Stand Up For Family videos are fun and upbeat.

My favorite was the Bill Bellamy one called "Momma Talk."  I remember having those talks from my mom and now I have them with my kids before we enter stores or other peoples' homes.  In fact, my oldest sister used to beg for food at church so often that my mom once decided to pin a sign to her that said, "Please don't feed me."  I'm not even kidding.

So, you can head over to AmFam for a few laughs today.  Every family has a lot of stories to tell.  These videos will probably make you remember some of your own past family stories.

Feature Friday

Today for Feature Friday I wanted to showcase a couple of newer blogs that you might want to keep on your radar.  Sometimes you guys tell me you're on the lookout for some new blogs to follow, so here are a couple new puppies to follow.  (You know you can substitute "puppy" for almost any noun.  It's great.)

First up is Knock Off Decor.  Who doesn't love a good knock off?  You can even search by store name and browse through all the knock offs people have submitted.

I was really impressed with these projects:

Guest Posting and a Heads Up

Today I'm over at Infarrantly Creative, where Beckie has a month long series on inexpensive gift giving.  It's an idea I've shared here long ago, but I added a little more.  Come see it HERE.

I also wanted to give you a little heads up....

Wake Up Wednesday

Last week's challenge was to share this link on Facebook, to help girls in other countries who need sanitary protection items.  If you didn't participate it's not too late.  It'll only take a few seconds as well.

This week's challenge is....

Little Man Cuffs (take two)

Yesterday after I made these belts I had some extra belt fabric left, so I decided it was time for another round of little man cuffs.  I made some a long time ago HERE, but that was when I used an old belt.  At that time I didn't even know you could just buy the belt stuff.  (I found it at Hobby Lobby for $1.20 a yard.)  Anyhow, I had some left and so I decided to make cuffs in the same way I made yesterday's belts.  Here they are.

Gifts for Guys - Big Boy Belts

First of all, I wanted to thank you guys for your kind, thoughtful, uplifting comments on my post yesterday.  When you share something personal you kind of feel vulnerable and nervous.  Thank you for letting me share so much with you.  I feel so lucky to have such incredible readers.

This post is a part of the "Gifts for Guys" series at Kojo Designs today.

I wanted to think of something my boys would want and not just something I want for them.  My boys think anything "big boys" do is super cool and that includes belts.  Rex has been begging to wear belts, but they are too tricky for him to get on and off himself.  So, I made him a Big Boy Belt that he can handle on his own.

Sunshine Sunday - trust

Today I am really grateful for what I've been given....even though it's not always what I asked for.

You see, if I had been the one choosing, I would have had a house full of girls.  They would be beautiful and they would be spaced 2 years apart.  They would love to sing and dance and I'd sew them ruffled skirts.  BUT, I got this.

And while the young ignorant me might have been upset that things didn't go as I had planned, the older current me is so thankful that I wasn't the one making the calls because this life is more than I ever could have planned or dreamed.

Soapbox Saturday - Random Things I Love

I love posts when people share their favorite things.  Why?  Because it's fun to get the scoop on things before buying or to get a good idea from a friend.  So, today I'm sharing a few random things I really like.

1) Olfa sent me a set of their Precision Applique Scissors.  I tried them out and they are great for cutting out little details.  They were small and super sharp.  Both loops on the handle are big, which means if you are left handed they would work for you, too.  Also, it means you can squeeze three fingers into one hole to have greater control as you cut.  I was thrilled to add these handy little guys to my collection.

Refashionista - I'm bringing muumuus back.

Alright.  Today's our last day of Refashoinista and it's my turn.

Have you ever had a project that failed five hundred times over?  I've made a few different things for this post and only one turned out the way I wanted it to.  I wanted to "wow" you with an incredible transformation, but this one's kind of small.  However, it's bold, so that counts for something right?

I purchased this sweet muumuu a while back.  My husband didn't see the potential.  No worries.  Here's what it looked like at first.  I'm not sure why he didn't want to be seen with me in public like this.  (The nasty cell phone picture adds to the drama, you know.)

Refashionista - Kelly from Sewing In No Man's Land

Refashionista is winding down.  Tomorrow is our last day!  Don't be sad.  There's good news.  We have Kelly from Sewing in No Man's Land here today!

Kelly amazes me with her detailed, over-the-top designs.  She is an incredible seamstress and to top it off she's a professional photographer.  Even if you don't sew, her blog is too beautiful to pass up.  Welcome Kelly!

I am so excited to be part of the Refashionista event this year! I love Cheri and her fabulous posts. She has got to be the blog with the most boy posts in the blogosphere. That takes some serious creative chops, boys are not the easiest to create for ha! I also love that her blogs name is as long as mine ;) As soon as I got Cheri's email I knew what I wanted to do. I had been perusing our local thrift store and noticed the over whelming amount of wool coats on the racks. None of them were particularly my style and I thought "what a waste of a darn expensive material". Which of course got those creative juices flowing, "I wonder if I could refashion one of those coats for Evie?" I headed home and threw the idea past my mom. She thought it was a great idea and even had a surprise for me, my Granny's wool coat so I was able to accomplish this:

Wake Up Wednesday

I wanted to make sure we didn't skip Wake Up Wednesday even though we're in the middle of Refashionista.  The last challenge was to plan something fun for someone.  My younger sister Cassie had her appointment to find out the gender of her baby and we planned a fun day of shopping to follow it.  (The shopping was needed because she found out it's a girl!)  It was perfect because my other's sisters kids had school off so they could be our babysitters.  I planned a day of fun for the ladies and it was exactly that.

Refashionista - Jen from iCandy Handmade

I hope you guys have been enjoying this Refashionista series as much as I have.  It's been fun to see such different projects from each blogger.  Today we have Jen from iCandy Handmade.  Jen and Autie have an awesome blog full of great projects.  Jen has some fantastic sewing skills and she has a fun idea for us today.  Welcome Jen!

Hi there!
Jen here, from iCandy handmade.

I was so excited to have been asked to participate in I am Momma's Refashionista series.
If you could see my office closet right now, you would see about 7 refashion projects either in the works or not started yet.  I was thrilled for this extra bit of motivation to get one of these projects done!
One of my favorite things to refashion are sweaters.
There are endless possibilities, like turning them into cardigans, embellishing them, resizing them, etc.  A few weeks ago I picked up this sweater at my local thrift store.  It is a J Crew sweater, in great condition, with a little bit of a silver sheen to it. (You can't see that in the photos.) I thought it would be a great night-time cardigan, but it needed...a little something else.

Refashionista - Kalleen from At Second Street

Welcome to Day 4 of Refashionista!

Today's guest blogger is Kalleen from At Second Street.  Kalleen is a woman of many talents.  She makes some of the most beautiful cakes I've ever seen.  Her Pear Pie recipe is incredible and I make it all the time.  Her refashions are amazing.  I loved THIS one and last year she did THIS great refashion for Refashionista.  Beyond that Kalleen is extremely humble, gracious, and kind.  She's the kind of person you wish lived next door.  Welcome Kalleen!

Hello Everyone, I'm Kalleen from At Second Street. I am thrilled and honored to be blogging here today. I love everything about Cheri, she's basically the momma we all wish we could be.

I also love a good refashion. I hate to admit it, but I am terribly cheap. Every time I enter a fabric store I leave wanting to cry.  I'm just not willing to pay what they are asking for fabric these days.
Instead I like to refashion items from our donate piles (I'm so lucky to have sisters who give me all their old clothes to refashion). I also pick up things from Goodwill every once in a while.

Refashionista - Delia from Delia Creates

Welcome to Day 3 of Refashionista.  Today our guest is Delia of Delia Creates.  I adore Delia.  Her blog feels like entering a comfortable, warm home.  It's full of beautiful ideas, gorgeous pictures, and she has two adorable boys!  (She's also got a little girl on the way.)  If you haven't been to her blog before you need to check it out.  She's awesome.

Hi I Am Momma readers! I am thrilled to be here today.
Cheri's blog is full of wonderful creative inspiration for crafting, for motherhood, and for life. So I'm pretty honored to be her guest today!

I love re-purposing projects, because you get to take something useless to you and make it useful again...or maybe even something you love. :)

Such is the case with some too tight, too short sweaters I had, that I converted to cardigans.

I know, I know...this has been done before - a lot, but this is my version of a:

Sunshine Sunday - Halloween, snow, and ice cream mustaches

Halloween did not disappoint this year.  The weather was perfect.  Both boys were old enough to get it and love it.  It was so fun to watch them stomp around in their costumes.  I am thankful for the excitement of kids.  It makes me so happy.

Sponsor Saturday

We're switching up how we do things around here with sponsors.  The first Saturday of the month will be Sponsor Saturday and I'll give you a quick glimpse at some of my favorite things in my sponsors' shops.  That way those of you who look at the blog in a reader won't miss out on these fun shops.  Let's do a little window shopping together.

Our newest sponsor is Mamachee - an adorable shop full of great crochet patterns and more.  I bet you can guess my favorite pattern without me even telling you.  Ah!  I need to learn to crochet!

Avocado Love

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hass Avocado Board featuring Hass Avocados for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Do you love avocados?  You you have a rocking recipe using them?  Do you like football?  How are these questions even related?  Let me tell you.

Refashionista - Christie from a Lemon Squeezy Home

It's day two of Refashionista!

Today we have Christie from A Lemon Squeezy Home in the house.  She is one of my favorites and I've met her in real life more than once as well.  I couldn't help but post this picture of her because I loved the Halloween costume she made for her husband and herself.  Ha!

I'm going to blab a second here.  My dad has told me many times that his dad used to tell him, "Don't tell people how great you are.  Let them find out on their own."  We've all seem the opposite - the person who won't stop talking about themselves.  Well Christie lives that quote so well.  She has a sweet, quiet confidence and the more you get to know her the more awesome you find out she is.  Okay.  I'm done blabbing.  Welcome Christie.

Refashionista - Lizzie from Cotton and Curls

Today is the first day of Refashionista!  This is one of my favorite events.  I love the idea of taking something old and giving it new life.

Our first guest is Lizzie from Cotton and Curls.  I fell upon Lizzie's blog recently and was impressed with her refashioning skills.  Lizzie is darling and she's been into refashioning for a long time.  Her blog is full of beautiful ideas.  Welcome Lizzie!

Bloggers in Real Life

There are TWO posts today.  There's this one and the Super Heroes of Service report down below this one, so don't miss it :)

A while back I was asked by these two awesome ladies to participate in their latest series, "Bloggers in Real Life."  Here's their explanation of what it's all about:

Creating, sharing, and inspiring connects us all together. Every day we are drawn to blogs that make us feel something, and we take a little piece of it with us. Behind every one of our favorite blogs, there's a person. A person with real emotions, fears, goals, and weird quirks that we never really get to experience first hand. We've brought together your favorite bloggers to give you a more intimate take on their lives, so you can catch the little details that make them who they are. Every Wednesday, we'll be capturing the lives of the people behind your daily reads in a way that you won't experience anywhere else. So get ready. We have lots to share! xoxo

Each week on Casey's blog, you will hear a more personal story about one of your favorite bloggers.... why they are the way they are, stories on loss or happiness, struggles or triumphs...we want to have them share the happiest moment of their life, or a time that they grew stronger because of an enormous trial placed in their path.
On Ashley's blog, they will be sharing any advice they have for you readers. It can be about fashion, being a mom or wife, how to grow your blog, how to start your own business, etc. Whatever their niche is, you will hear their expert advice!

You can read my advice on Ashley's Blog HERE and my personal story on Casey's blog HERE.

Wake Up Wednesday - Super Heroes of Service

Last month I announced a change to our Wednesday format - making the first Wednesday of the month our "Super Heroes of Service" challenge.  It's a challenge you can involve your kids in.  The first challenge was to "visit someone who is lonely and bring something to share."

Silhouette Advent Calendar

Last week we finished up Silhouette week, but I have one more project to sneak in on you and there's a promo for you as well.  The people at Silhouette let me try out their limited edition advent calendar.  It was so pretty I had to say yes.

When you order it you get the shadow box and a code to download all the boxes and drawers.  You can choose a drawer or box for each hole.  I decided to mix it up a bit.  Here's mine.
