What Comes Next....PLEASE VOTE!!!

Do you remember what your response was when someone would ask you what you wanted to be when you grow up?  Though I'm already "grown up" I suppose, my honest answer is a bit complex.  If I could do anything I would do something different every few months.  I'd be a hair stylist for a while, then I'd try dental hygiene.  After that I'd love to work on some sort of creative team for a show and then I'd try out being a make up artist.  The list goes on and on.  I'm not saying I have any natural ability for any of these things, I'm just saying I love variety and I love learning new things.

I don't anticipate throwing in the towel with blogging anytime soon, but I do think about other interests and things I'd like to pursue at times.  I realize that not all of you share the same interest that I do, but I'm hoping you can help me out a little today.  I created a little poll, featuring a few things I'd love to do someday.

Can you vote for which option you'd be interested in?  (If you're in google reader you might have to click over to the blog to vote.)  Let me explain the options a little so you can know what I'm even talking about.

1) (SIDENOTE: Music is what I used to do before blogging and kids.  I released a few albums and pursued that for a while.  You can look up Cheri Magill on iTunes if you're curious.)  I miss music and I've always thought it would be fun to do an album of music for children.  Something along the lines of Laurie Berkner, but a bit more pop/hip and less folky.  The goal would be for it to be music that you as an adult aren't annoyed by.

2) You guys know that crafting for boys is kind of my specialty.  I've often thought it would be fun to pursue doing a book on crafting for boys.

3) An acoustic hymn CD.  I realize not everyone here is religious, but this is something that's been on my goal list for years.  I'd love to come up with some creative renditions of old hymns and record them.  Think Sarah McLaughlin does hymns.

4) A coffee table book.  I think it would be cool to combine service ideas with beautiful photography and make a coffee table book to inspire us to reach out to one another.

5) None of the above.  I don't expect any of you to jump on the bandwagon with every crazy idea I might have.  Feel free to vote for this is you have no interest in any of the above options.

I'm curious to see what interests we have in common.  Can you please take two seconds and place a vote on the poll below?  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!  I really appreciate your help and insight.  We'll be back to the regular crafting posts next week.

  5. You forgot an option...ALL of the above! I think all of the ideas are great and you would rock each one. My favorite I think is the coffee table book. It would combine your ideas and experiences for service with photography and editing and would make for a pretty complex project, I think. Whatever you do, good luck!

  6. All of the above!

  7. I voted for the crafting book for boys, but the coffee table book would be my 2nd choice.

  8. The craft book for boys!! I have a boy and I am a crafter. It's so hard to find good project for boys. Everything seems to be geared toward little girls leaving us out. I highlight you on my blog all the time for your great crafts for boys!! Your one in a million! I say do it! :)

  10. I agree with the others...all of the above. I did vote for the Children's CD though. I would love some kids music that didn't drive me crazy :)

  11. My mom came home from work one and said " I finally figured out what i want to be when i grow up.... Retired!!"

  12. It seems everybody already said what I had in mind. All of the above! They all seem like great ideas, and also things in which you would be helping other people.Whatever you decide to do , I'm sure it will be amazing! I did vote for the Hymn CD, my hubby being a singer and guitar player himself, I would love to have some sort of acoustic version of hymns.Good Luck

  13. They all sound fantastic! Another project I would be interested in is a fleece jacket or snowsuit. Now that winter is here, I'd like to make one for my son but there are very few patterns or tutorials out there to help me!

  14. I voted for the book, because you have the best ideas for boys :)

But i think a children's album would be awesome!!! i don't think there is one out there that i can tolerate :)

  15. I want to vote for them all! I am jealous you have so much talent that you have so many options for future goals!

  16. I often feel like a Jack of all trades and master of none. Love how you have so many great options. I think it would be great to have a crafting book for boys!

  17. I love every single idea and think eventually you should do it all :D But I love the crafting for boys book idea and I would totally buy that!

  18. I was just thinking today it'd be nice to have a CD of primary songs/religious songs that are fun to listen to. The primary CD just doesn't feel very musical.

  19. i wanted an all of the above button too! I voted for the children's cd (looked you up on amazon and previewed :) you have a great voice!) but would love the boy book too... good luck with your decisions/ventures!

  20. I choose the craft book, only because it's something I would buy and could use! My second vote is the acoustic hymns, I love gospel, Christian music and never get tired of it.

  21. I'm in the same boat that I would vote for all of them; I voted for the children's album because that sounds cool, but my second-favorite was the crafting-for-boys book!

Heck, I'm a scattered creative myself, so I say rotate between the 4! Play with one until it starts to become a chore, then move onto the next one until it feels boring, repeat... eventually you'll finish all of them! ;D

  22. i like the coffee table book idea- and i also really like the hymns. (i quite like your music, and actually have several of your songs in my running playlist. :)

  23. I like them all, but I chose the hymn CD, because I love music, but never have been taught how to put music together. So any tips on that would be wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Since I had to choose one, I chose the book on crafting with boys, but the children's CD was a very close second!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think all of those would be fantastic.

The question for me is, "Where does one start?"

I would totally love to plunge into any of those roles though, how fulfilling.

  26. I love the coffee table book idea and the crafting book for boys idea. I ultimately went with the coffee table book. Good luck with whatever you pursue! It will be fantastic of course. :)

  27. I voted for what I would most likely buy :]

  28. I voted for what I would most likely buy :]

  29. My son LOVES Laurie Berkner and you would be able to tie several of your gifts into one by creating a childrens CD. I would definitely buy that (DVD would be great too as my son LOVES to watch people playing music or singing). The creative things for boys book would be my next favorite thing. I love being crafty, but with a son, I feel stifled a bit (so many super cute things for girls out there). I'd certainly buy your book. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. You'll do great no matter what!

  30. Cheri,

I want to wish you and your family the best year ever in 2012. I couldn't make up my mind as to what to pick. Sorry.

  31. Cheri I hope you do all of them! We love what you do and can't wait to see what comes next!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. All of them sound great! And I will love to see any that you purse. Though I have 2 boys so I am partial to the crafting for boys!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Write a book, write a book....wait, wait, make an album...you will rock at whatever you choose:)

    ReplyDelete
  34. My faves are the first 3. I would love a craft book for boys. but I also like the music ideas too.

    ReplyDelete
  35. My first pick would be music for kids. I don't mind most of it but my husband hates it!
I would also love a book of crafts for boys. My daughter is so easy to sew for, but my little boy gets so excited when I make something for him I would like to have more ideas.

  36. Although I would totally love it if you wrote a book about crafting for boys (and so would a lot of people) you need to do what makes you happy. Maybe now is the time to shift your focus to something completely different than what you've done before, change is always good.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I like them all! My first choice, if I HAD to choose, an album for kids. Second choice would be the craft book for boys. ANY would make me smile! :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I could write a book on the answer to this post so be warned! First of all I think you should do everyone of those and I mean it, but I also want to say if those are things that really interest you don't put them off forever. I have a list much like that and now that I am over 50 realizing that many of those things probably aren't going to happen. So if it really means something to you find a way to make them happen. As for bored and lots of interest I hear ya! I have done all sorts of things, anywhere from a paper girl to selling hot dogs on the side of the street to painting t-shirts, you name it I have been all over the board! Right now I am looking for my next adventure. PS I voted a children's CD because I would sing with my niece's but I think you should totally go into the boy's clothing (I just don't have any little boys yet!). I know this whatever you do, it will be fabulous!!!

  39. Crafting for Boys! Crafting for Boys! I am about to have our first baby (boy) and am sad that there are so many more resources for crafting for girls. I would TOTALLY buy that book!

  40. What about combining two of the ideas and working on a worship CD for kids? My son got a Veggie Tales CD for Christmas, and OH, MY. It is soooo annoying! I'd love to have a worship CD geared for kids that I could enjoy, too!

  41. My vote is for the acoustic hymn CD. I used to not care for hymns but after 7 years of BSF I've really come to appreciate them. Now I have a Pandora station for Come Thou Fount that I enjoy listening to. Yea that's what I want to see you do!

  42. I wanted to vote for all three of the first three, even though I don't have any boys. I have a boatload of nephews, though.

I have been reading blogs on my ipod on the road and it's a PITA to comment, so I wanted to say CONGRATS ON MARTHA STEWART, LADY! That's so rad! If I had cable I'd watch it for sure, I will have to see if I can't catch it online somehow! Go you!

  43. Book for boys first -- girls flood the market! And when that's done, move on to the music album. Regardless, have fun!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well, I think you are an all around talented lady who can do all of those things on your list :)

  45. My favorite I think is the coffee table book. www.socialkik.com/google.html

  46. I'd love a non-annoying kids CD. Some kids songs drive me bonkers. I agree with everyone else though. All of the above - just don't do it all at once. Take your time!
