Wake Up Wednesday

Last week my sister gave us a challenge to do something out of the ordinary for your neighbor.  I didn't bake any treats or do anything extravagant, but I did make a phone call that was a little out of my comfort zone to someone who I thought needed some help.  It's funny how sometimes to get the idea to do something and then try to talk yourself out of it.  Then you do it and wonder what hindered you in the first place because you're so glad you did it.  I'm kind of babbling, but hopefully you know what I mean.

This week's challenge is to use one of your talents to bless someone else.  Maybe you're a great baker, singer, hair stylist, listener, photographer, or teacher.  Take inventory of what you've been given and plan a way to help someone out with it this week.  This challenge is pretty broad, but I'm excited to hear all your interpretations of it.

So, did any of you get the chance to do something out of the ordinary for your neighbor?  I love hearing about your experiences.  They make my Wednesday.  Thanks for reading.

  1. I chewed my neighbors out for NOT letting my family watch their dog while they were on vacation. In a gentle way of course. I meant it, they are so kind to us, I just wanted to let them know they could lean on us when in a pinch, because that's what are neighbors/friends are for.

  4. My neighbors did something awesome for us. We were out of town on vacation when a snow storm came through dumping several inches on the ground. We worried that the covered driveway would give away the fact we weren't home but our neighbors cleared it for us without us asking them to do so. Now today we have received more snow and it's our chance to clear their walks while they are at work.

  6. Last week a dear friend of ours got in a terrible car accident, and ended up in the hospital. Her amazing daughter organized a work party to clean up their house and farm and which my husband and 5 year old joined. They worked all day long, getting the massive flower beds around the house cleaned up and ready for planting this spring. I took the younger two with me and bought a huge bunch of flowers, along with several other ladies. We covered her kitchen table with flowers!! It was a lovely thing for her to come home to, and it was a blessing for us to bless her!!!

  7. Well, not sure if this counts, but I'll share anyways...Me and my boyfriend just starting going to this church in our city. He had a nice couple back in early January (from this church) and they had invited us over for dinner (in which the Pastor and his wife joined)..fabulous dinner, lovely conversation, the whole bit...I've been emailing the one lovely lady and she had told me that she was going away for the weekend (btw, her mother was in a rehab facility, not drugs or anything, just to get her strength up because she wasn't feeling good and was in the hospital) so anywho...for about five days or so me and 2 1/2 year old would go to the rehab facility and hang out with her for about an hour or so...it was really nice to talk to her, and learn more about her and her family, oh, I forgot to mention she just turned 96 a few weeks ago...but anywho, I really enjoyed her company!! It was nice because I had only met this lady once, at the dinner, so I didn't really know her that well, or her family really, but decided that since I'm currently a SAHM, I had time to share....btw, love your blog...

  9. Well, a woman from our ward lost her husband. She has no family here. So the day of her husbands funeral I woke up early and brought her some muffins and bagels I made. This was totally out of my comfort zone because I am so shy. I hesitated alittle but my husband really encouraged me to go alone. I felt awkward at first, but when she opened the door and saw me I could tell it really meant alot that I had thought of her. I thought to myself that I should be doing stuff like this for others more often with so many people that just need a simple gesture. Thanks for this challenge and your weekly challenges. You Rock!

  10. I did something Ive wanted to do for a few weeks now. My neighbor gave birth to her 5th child and i wanted to make a nice meal for their family. Well i did!!! ! I delivered meatballs, pasta, sub rolls, cheese, a cake, and even some pumpkin spice muffins for breakfast the next day. I loved every minute of preparing, cooking and delivering this to our neighbors. I am blessed to have such special neighbors and so glad i could help. I can however think of how much work it would be to cook for a large family everyday....
