Wake Up Wednesday

Last week's challenge was to do something you've put off.  Git 'er done week definitely helped me with that one.  While there's still a list, it's shorter and that feels great.  It was so fun to see you guys join in during the link party, too.  A lot of you completed huge projects.  Way to go AND thank you for sharing them with me!

Now on to this week's challenge.

This week's challenge is to leave comments on the blogs you love.  After our talk about Pinterest, it seems like so many people are bummed that people now pin without commenting.  I'm not asking you to comment here, but go out and find those blogs you love and let them know.  It's a fast, easy way to show someone you care and appreciate their efforts.  I often get lazy about commenting myself.  I use Google reader and things get busy.  However, I'm going to try to stretch a little more this week.  Let's make the world a little friendlier.

And just so you know....comments really can impact people.  I got a not-so-nice one on Saturday and then several of you left supportive comments, defending me.  I can't tell you how much that meant to me.  Thank you so much.  And thank you for reading.

  1. your blog has become one of my daily must reads. i agree that i think thanks to the popularity of pinterest we bloggers no longer get the same kind of following (says the girl with a whopping 28 followers! lol). But it has changed a lot int he alst year. my blog was started for totally different reasons and im still trying to get the hang of it and i am so thankful that there are awesome bloggers like you who are willing to share your secrets. thanks!

  2. It's funny that is today's challenge because I turned on my computer with the idea to leave comments on some of my favorite blogs. And this is one of my favorite blogs!

  3. You rock Cheri! Spread the love. I love it. :)

  4. I read ALL the blogs ALL the time. I'm a little OCD about it really. I love your blog, your cute little dudes, and even your husband's silly bet 'stache. Your positive outlook always helps me de-Eeyore myself. I'm a grumpy guss on default. I don't share all of your views on life, but I love seeing them here all the same. :D Thanks for coming back and giving me something to read and inspiring me to do stuff.

  5. Cheri,

I have commented before and I am happy to do it again!
After reading your posting I'm sorry that your feeling were hurt by some negativity. I went back to Saturday's post and read to find the comment you were talking about. Your blog is wonderful. I discovered blogging only this past August and have become quite addicted. Pinterest is out for me because if I go there once then I will be lost forever! My family is neglected enough as it is. :) I didn't read every comment so I don't know if anyone said it but "You Can't Please All The People All The Time!" You didn't want to have any ads on your blog and only did so out of a major financial need. If the need wasn't there then neither would be the adds - correct? Besides, you also questioned if your readers would be disapointed if ads were to appear and I believe that consensous was do what you need to do. It is said that for every one comment made there are hundreds of people that feel the same but don't take the effort to do so. Hmm, do you think the same thing is true for blog commenters; it is so easy to type a dozen words and hit SEND as apposed to pulling out pen and paper.
Anyhow, your blog is the second one I check DAILY. Why DAILY? Because I love your blog! I'll say it again. I LOVE YOUR BLOG!!! You are smart, creative, intelligent, insightful and have two of the cutest boys I have ever seen.
And as my soap box is being crushed by being on so long I'll step down and let you read the next comment. Thank you very much -(sad Elvis impersonation.)
I hope you have the best day ever!

  6. funny that this is the challenge this week. I have been "lurking" around a few different blogs for the past 5 weeks or so.Loving what I see and I thought I might give it a shot myself. I am so new to blogging believe it or not, I went to the library and checked out Mom blogging for dummies. In the book it says the best way to get noticed and involved is to actually comment on blogs u love( and stop the lurking). Ha I thought it was funny that I was a "lurker" and didnt even know it. Point being u ARE a blog that I love,I have u on my bloglovin' and I check in daily. thanks for the inspiration and for the challange. :)

  7. Thanks for making this the challenge this week. Comments really do make a lot of difference. I will go out today and comment my little heart out! Starting here first!

This blog is pretty gosh darn awesome and you are a crafting genius!

  9. I check out your blog everymorning, it's part of my 'morning' rotine. I have two girls and proably should be checking out girly blogs but I love yours. FYI I don't check out any other blog like I do yours. Thank you for all that you do.

  11. I just started following your blog this last week. I think I had clicked on some cool things on Pinterest and they lead me to your blog and it was recognizing your adorable little boys that lead me to the conclusion of "You obviously like all the things she makes, just start following!" I tend to go through phases of overfollowing and then I get stressed when I fall behind on my blog reading. Wow - long story to get to the point of I love your projects! My 5 and 3 year old were looking over my shoulder when I was reading your tutorial of the batmobile and immediately got excited and are demanding we go find cardboard boxes NOW.
I can't tell you how many times I start commenting on a blog and then delete it because I don't think it's insightful enough or I think the blogger is too popular and she/he will never read what I wrote. The funny thing about that is when I get comments on my blog, I am so excited and read every single one - why would anyone else be any different? Here's to lots of comments on blogs from me today!!

  12. I know your post was not about getting people to post comments on your blog, but I can't help but feel inspired. I love your blog. I love how real, open and honest you are. I love your simple tutorials. I love that your blog is creative and inspiring without feeling overwhelming or impossible. I love the humble way you post. I love the way you have become a famous blogger while keeping things simple and your priorities straight. Thanks for trying to make this world a better place through these Wake Up Wednesday Challenges. The world needs more people like you!

  13. I am a faithful reader and sometimes a lazy commenter. I was just looking through my google reader and I have several things of yours kept as unread and emailed to myself for later. you rock :) i just love the stuff you make for your boys!!

  14. I love your blog. I am constantly amazed at the quality and quantity of your posts. I also think your faith and willingness to document personal growth and challenges to be beyond couragious and inspiring!

  15. As always, you are amazing! You inspire me!

  16. Thank you so much for this post! I've been thinking about that lately as well, and even though I pin links to blogs often, I rarely comment. I guess I usually think "why would anyone want to hear what I have to say?". How silly though.... I know that an encouraging word goes a long way no matter where it comes from. So thank you for the nudge to be an encourager and not just a lurker. I'm beginning here. :)
I really love your blog and especially your ideas for boys.... I have a son and while it's super easy to find fun things to make for my little girl, it's harder for him. And he loves it when I make things for him!

  17. Cheri, I love your blog! You are so creative and give me so many ideas. My blog is rather small, but sometimes I feel kind of lonely because no one posts comments. If I wasn't able to see my stats and see that people actually visit my blog, I wouldn't know that anyone actually reads my ramblings. You are an inspiration to me. Thank you for all of the hard work you put into your blog.

  18. I totally agree! I am such a commenter but, I can tell that a lot of people aren't. It's funny, a lot of folks are just happy to read without saying anything at the end. Anyway...you read my thoughts exactly! Commenting is good, and makes other people smile. :)

  19. I came across your blog a while ago because of your upcycled hats. I tried making one, but it didn't turn out (someday I'll try again). This is my go to blog when I need a good pick me up. You are very inspiring and have a positive influence in my life.

  20. Cheri,

I came across your blog when I found the tutorial for your Tohoku bag pinned on Pintrest. Since then your blog has been one that I have come to look forward to reading every day. I don't often read blogs, but you have so many neat craft ideas, I am now hooked. I am currently working on the Tohoku bag, one for me and one for my sister. I will post pictures on that link, once I finish them. Take care and have a wonderful week!

  22. What a great idea for a challenge! Sometimes we all get a little too busy, and forget that our time and our words are the best things we can give to each other. I get stuck in my reader too, and like Stephanie often feel lonely at my little blog. Amazing how even one sweet comment can brighten up your day, isn't it?

  23. Ever since I ran across your blog, I have loved the stuff you post. I have two boys and have enjoyed reading what you do for them. I have used the freezer paper stencils so many times thanks to your tutorial on it. Thanks for all the time you put into your blog.

  24. Another long-time lurker here! Just had to take your challenge and am going to go to several of my favorite blogs and share the love!

Your blog IS one of my faves. Love your challenges and the pix of your lil cutie-pies too!

  25. I must say, I think when someone pins something from your site on Pinterest, it's a HUGE compliment in itself. I don't pin anything unless I love it/admire it/think it's awesome AND I'm willing to share it with the others (mostly friends & family) who "follow" me on Pinterest.

But I also leave lots of comments on blogs too, so I guess I'm off the hook! :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I admit, I don't always comment on pins, but I try to make sure they always link back to the original post and if they don't, I type in where the pin is from at least... But I comment on blogs ALL the time, so I should be okay on that one, right??

  27. Oooh, you totally got me with this one. I read your blog every day and rarely have I left a comment. I know you weren't fishing, don't worry, but I do feel I ought to comment more, here and on my other faves. I know you do a ton of work to put all your wonderful posts together, and I appreciate it. Thanks for all you do. :)

  28. I follow your blog for nearly two years. I read it every day. I think I startet reading with the "Robot Rex". To me, you are the most inspiring person in the blogging world. I love your blog! I always smile (sometimes I cry) when i visit you. I´m deeply ashamed to admit, that I never left a comment... I´m shaken up! Greetings from Germany!

  29. I've always been someone who favorites blogs and then checks them every.single.day but never really commented. I have now started my own blog, and have started to leave comments more and more. I think because of the fact that I know it's so exciting to get comments. I just started about 2 months ago, so my following is tiny, and I get few comments, but when I do get them, it's super exciting!!! You keep doing what your doing, I LOVE reading your blog, your amazing!!!
Just wanted to share that with you, and say HELLO! :)

  30. Just found your blog via Pinterest... so hi. :) I always try to leave comments when I stop by a blog, because I know how much I appreciate comments myself. That comic is sooo cute!

  31. Thanks for this reminder. I read a lot of blogs, but often think I shouldn't comment because I have nothing profound to say. I forget that sometimes a kind word is all that is needed.

I love these Wake Up Wednesday posts. Kuddos for trying to put a little more good into this world :)

  32. So I have to say that I used to be really self-conscious leaving comments on blogs where they obviously had NO idea who I was, but I just jump started my own blog almost 2 weeks ago, and I seriously check all the time to see if anyone comments. And I know now that if someone commented that I didn't know who they were, it would make me even more excited/happy. By the way, you left a comment because I linked up to your git 'er done link up party, and that made me feel AWESOME. So I just thought I'd say thank you on a very appropriate post of yours. And thanks for the reminder to do more commenting!

  33. I have to leave a comment here since I never have but I have been a daily reader, well almost daily, since I found it last March. I love your ideas, your adorable boys, and everything about your amazing blog. You're so inspirational. Thank you for providing all of us with something new everyday!

  34. Because I truly love the blogs I read, I make an effort each evening to sit down and comment on them. I know personally what a sweet encouraging comment on a blog post feels like! A hug from a friend! So here is a hug for you! I know we will never meet, our boys will never have a play date, but you have entered my home, made an impact, and in that weird blog-world way become a friend to me! Thank you!

  35. Hi Cheri,
I have been following your blog for maybe a year and a half now, and love it! I haven't seen anything you have posted that I haven't loved. I have a little girl, Raleigh, who is just a little older than Baden. And got a kick out of your potty training him because I was going through the same things with her.
I was so excited for you when you got to go on Martha Stewart! What an exciting thing! When I watched, I thought "I know her!" Even though we have never met, I feel like I can relate to you. And that is what makes your blog so much fun to read!
I am off to comment on the other blogs I love.
    Thanks for being you!

  36. Thanks for the push to leave comments. I read so many blogs (mostly from my iphone) so I don't comment very often. I just went to 3 of my daily reads and posted comments. I know how much I appreciate positive feedback from people and it's nice to be able to dish it out too! I love all these challenges. Last week I got so much done with your Get Er done week- thanks!

    1. Your blog is one of the few that I faithfully read each day. You are inspiring and at the same time, very real! I love your openness and honesty. And as a mother of three sons, I can relate to all the "boy stuff", which makes me smile, and sometimes cry, as I recall the years of raising them and the challenges--and fun--along the way.

  37. I've been reading for a while and very much appreciate all the ideas... This Wake Up Wednesday was just the push I needed to comment on a blog for the first time! Thank you. Also I wanted to let you know that I made one of the felt flowers for a hairclip and the young recipient was very pleased. A great tutorial!

  38. I was sad to hear of the not-so-nice comment on Saturday. I really believe that people who troll like that are deeply unhappy.

It rings so true that a comment is an opportunity for you to impact someone positively and says a lot about who you are and your values.

Could also be that she is one of Pinterest's major shareholders and you hit a nerve. I guess we'll never know!
