Wake Up Wednesday

Last week's challenge was to learn about your heritage.  While this could have gone a lot of different ways, I chose to learn more about the pioneers who settled here in Utah.  (We just had "Pioneer Day" which is a big holiday around these parts.)  I learned more details about what they went through and what their lives were like.  While it isn't a part of my genetic heritage, it is a part of my religious heritage.  We have a hymn in our church about the pioneers and I actually wrote an arrangement of it and sang it in church on Sunday.  It's a song they sang way back then and I love it.

For this week's challenge I am recycling our very first Wake Up Wednesday challenge from over a year and a half ago.  It's a good one.

Make something.  (That's the easy part.  It can be a craft or food or whatever else you can come up with.)  Give it to someone you know, but not well.  (If you're thinking of someone you gave a Christmas present to, then that's not what I mean.  Aim for less a neighbor you don't know well or a lady you know from church but have never really talked to.)

I have no idea what I'm going to make or give, but I'm excited to think of something.  Unexpected gifts are so fun!

Did any of you learn about your heritage in any way?  Let's hear about it.  Thanks for stopping by.

- Have you seen the blog that (Sugar Bee Crafts) Mandy's husband started?  It's called "So I married a craft blogger."  Funny insights on what it's like to be married to a crafter.  I think my husband would enjoy it a bit too much.

- Sarah can seriously rock a before and after.  Check THIS out.  I never would have seen the potential in that dress.  Sweet skills.

- My sister got me this China Glaze nail polish for my bday in a dark charcoal-ish shade and it's matte - not shiny.  I'm really digging it.  (But not enough to take a picture of it on my fingers as I hold the bottle of polish so I can pin it on pinterest with the billions of other identical photos like it.  What's up with that? :)

What a fun challenge! I know exactly what I'm going to make and who is going to get it! Love this! And thank you for the lack of a nail polish picture ;) Haha! You crack me up!

Here's my story... I went to our by-annual Gier reunion where I refreshed my memory about my heritage.... my great, great grandparents had 15 children (3 stillborn), my great grandparents had 7 children, my grandparents-only four, and me-i have 5 children (2 of which are steps)..... I guess it means that we have many relatives running around out there (I found one when I moved 250 miles away from 'the homeplace' in 2005-we ended up teaching together!) Small world!

I did something a little different for learning about your heritage. Each of my kids has a family name as either their first or middle name, so I taught the kids a little about their heritage. I got thinking that it would be great if they each had a picture of their namesake hung in their room, so now I'm working on that. I hope it helps them remember who they are.

I was laughing too hard at Trevor's insights. Loving "at the water cooler," keep it up.

Happy Birthday! Hope it was a fantastic one!
