Wake Up Wednesday

Last week's challenge was to find someone who was struggling and to find a way to help.  We had a few opportunities come our way, but one involved a friend was is making some big life changes.  We got to help paint a new place for her.  Rex asked if he could help and he was pretty proud of his work.  No worries - it was only the primer.

This week's challenge is to walk away from something time consuming for a while.  Let me explain.

This is one I kind of need.  I remember a few years ago before blogging my husband and I would surf the net and then we'd get sick of it and declare that we had "come to the end of the internet."  Well, recently I've come realize that I don't ever come to the end of the internet anymore.  There are always emails to answer, posts to write, pinterest to search, and other blogs to read.  Sometimes it's overwhelming.  So, I'm going to try to stay away for a few days.  I have posts written ahead of time, but it I don't get back to your emails or questions you'll know why.  Sorry!

As far as the challenge goes, maybe it's a different thing for you.  Maybe it's turning off the TV more to get something done.  Maybe it's dropping something to spend a little extra time with the kids.  I think it's always good to step back and reevaluate at times.

So, did anyone find a way to help someone last week?  I love reading your experiences.   Thanks for being here.

  1. This last January during my first trimester of pregnancy, being connected made me feel worse than I was already feeling, which is saying a lot considering I am the person most friends and family come to with technology questions.

I resolved it by cutting out all optional things-- most blogs (yours made 1 of 2 that I actually still read), Pinterest, FB to an extent, iPhone games, and even my own blog (which is something I'm going to pick back up in a smaller capacity).

Anyway, the point is that I realized how much clearer my head felt and how much more involved I was with my toddler. If I need to find an idea or resource, sure I'll go to Google or Pinterest and use it as a search engine. But, other than that, the rest was just causing head clutter and overwhelming me as opposed to helping.

It's been almost 9 months that way, and I must say that I don't miss it.

  2. I'll try to stop internet for 5 days from today. I'll try to read, not watching TV. Aljonushka from faraway Belarus

  3. Last week my sister in law got some really horrible spider bites that turned into a staph infection. She has a son the same age as my daughter so for one night while she was recovering I took on two toddlers (hers and mine). It was like having twins and made me thankful that I normally only have one! I was glad that I could help out, she was very sick and just that one night of complete rest helped her recovery. Did I mention that I have a wonderful sleeper, I mean she goes to bed at 8:30 and wakes up at 9am. Hers on the other hand, not so much. He woke up at 4:30am! It was awful but we got through it and the kids had fun playing!

  4. You go, stepping away from the internet for a few days. As for me, I can stop at any time, I swear! I'm just not quite ready.

  5. I love your WakeUp Wednesdays!!! I work at a Children's Hospital and I got the wonderful opportunity to step up and buy some books for one of my patients who was given a devastating diagnosis. I also got to do some laundry for the mom. This is one of my favorite patients and I love the family too and it was a joy to do something, anything really, for them.
