What I Love Wednesday - maps

I love maps.  I always wanted to have a globe in my home so I could show my kids where different places were.  My sister got me one a while ago and we've had fun pointing places out.

Maps are also so fun for decor.  Whether it's state-love or wall-sized maps, they can be a great way to add interest to your home.  Here are a few map-oriented things I've found online that I love.

I love this state sign from the Pine Nuts.

Go big or go home with this giant map wallpaper found HERE.

Or go for a city map like THIS one.

We have this huge vinyl world map in our bedroom in a different color.  It's found HERE at Vinyl Impression.

You could even make map pillows.  This one is found HERE.

So do you love maps, too?  Feel free to share a link if there's something you love or something map-oriented you've made.

Thanks for dropping in.

  1. i'm hunting for the perfect globe for our home too! i love having a visual reminder of special places. I made some map coasters of special places for my siblings and a map monogram for us of where we honeymooned. not as large scale, but we rent for now so i like to keep the decor move-able!

  2. Cute! I pinned this awhile ago - would love to make it an anniversary gift for my husband, to remind us of all the trips we've taken together!

  5. I was just thinking about doing maps as the artwork for my now two son's room; one is three and the other 5 months. Thank for posting the round up I can show "my vision" to the hubs as he was hesitant as to what it would look like.

  6. I'm with you...I really do love maps...I just can never quite work them into my decor in a way that's pleasing to the eye. I have a globe in my son's room (a thrift store one that barely turns and looks all grody) that we use a lot. I LOVE that California one! So cute!

  7. Love maps. Have a 1970's classroom map of Canada, which now hangs on this Canadian expat's wall in Denmark. Fabulous way for my wee ones to get a sense of where their mommy is from and where their family is.

And now just a few links to some map stuff I've been adoring:

Making vinyl play mats of your neighbourhood -- very cool.

Clipping human forms out of old maps to make couples or families, each representing their respective places. Really lovely.

    Sweet map pillows.

And I once saw a map pillow (showing the local neighbourhood) made from a Google Earth image that was then turned into fabric via Spoonflower. Thought it very cool.

  8. I am obsessed with maps! I love the modern colorful ones, and I die over the vintage maps. My whole house would be filled with them if I had the room, and it wouldn't make me look like a crazy map lady. I am definitely going to have to get that vinyl wall print though..its amazing!

  9. I love maps too. I painted a world map on my bedroom wall when I was in highschool - I used an overhead projector and drew it in pencil and then painted each country a colour. Then I put glow stars in each of the places I had been too, so at night the places I had been lit up. I loved it and still do (though it isn't my room anymore!) My parents never got rid of it though.

  12. Yep- I love maps too! I made this 'love map' for my husband for Valentines Day this year. It is a frame with street maps of where he proposed, where we got married, our honeymoon, where our babies were born and our first home. He loved it and it looks great in our home. http://make-it-funky.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/valentines-gift-for-him.html

  14. I love love love maps! For Valentines day my husband (who is not in the least bit crafty) printed off two maps of what province we were each born in and the province we live in now. He put a heart in our birth places and a heart where we live now and had them framed. It was the sweetest gift he has ever given me!! I love it!
