The other day I was browsing through the winners of Made by Rae's Spring Top Week and I saw the winner's top. It was made by Lindsay and I loved it! Wow! I have seen a lot of doilies being used here and there in blogland, but I love how she folded it over the top. Beautiful!
While she doesn't have a tutorial for it, I still wanted to make one and give her the credit, since it wasn't my idea. I'll show you how I did it, so you can make one as well.
I went through my closet and found an old tank top that I haven't been wearing. I found a doily at the dollar store. (Yup. Turns out you don't have to go to an antique store or break into grandma's house to get one.)
I cut the top third of the doily off. Then I folded it over and sewed along the stitched line of the collar that was already there.
I sewed a few other places along the edges of the doily where I thought it might come up. I just made sure to stitch right on top of it with cream thread so you can't see it. Here's the back side, so you can see what I mean.
All done! If you don't have a sewing machine you're not out of the club here. You could easily hand stitch it down, too.
I love how it looks under a cardigan.
(I'm working on my mirror self-photos. See how you can't see the camera and I don't look constipated? Yeah, I know you're impresssed.)
Now make sure you take a peek at Lindsay's blog. She takes beautiful pictures and makes lovely things. Thanks for sharing your beautiful top with us Lindsay!
Now, on to "You Roared!" As I mentioned before, there are some amazing things floating around the flickr pool. Let's take a look!
We're going to try something new. Click HERE to see a short little slideshow of some of the flickr pictures.
Have a great Friday night!

Very cute on a tank! I did something like this with 2 doilies on a v-neck a while ago. Here is my version:

I was just wondering what I was going to do with a small collection of doilies that I have. Great work!
Love it!!
Wow, doilies at the dollar store. I want to go now. Good Luck in SYTYC. I hope you make it through. You would do fabulous.
Now I know what to do with old lady presents. Thanks!

this is really adorable. what a great job
OH! This is so simple. So pretty. I really like it. And I am totally going to head over to my dollar store and browse around :)
Love the tank and tutorial.... Love the picture, you're getting very good.
I made one but put the doily at the side of a V-neck and do not like how it turned out. However, one thing you might want to do (and add to your tutorial) is to use some sort of fray check/ blocker on the raw edge of the doily. Just to make sure it doesn't come undone.
Wow- I love your doily top, it is so cute and perfect for summer! And it's such an honor to be mentioned on your feature Friday, thanks so much!
What a great transformation from a plain tank top. Love this idea!
