Bow Tee for Me

If you haven't voted for Crafting With the Stars yet be sure to head over.  The theme is baby and my partner's project rocks.  Click HERE to head over.

While I made this shirt over a year ago and I've worn it a billion times, I realized I never posted it.  It's a great one for any of you who feel like you need some sewing practice.  It's easy and fun.  My dress form is modeling it for you today because she doesn't have to do her hair and makeup to look presentable :)  Her weight never even fluctuates.  Hmmm....how would that be?

All you do is cut some strips of any knit fabric.  Knits won't fray, so this gives us much less work to do here.  The strips don't have to be perfect.  It's a really easy going project.  Sew the strips on.  I went an inch or two, lifted my presser foot, folded the strip to go another direction, and started sewing again.  I did this all around the front collar.  You don't have to pin anything.  Just sew in a fun, messy kind of way.

Then I sewed another strip over the top, shaping it like a bow.  The pieces will curl in a bit as the shirt is washed.  It gives it a cool, raw look.

In the back I let the strips come downward, just to create some visual interest.

It's an easy, quick way to embellish a shirt.  It probably took less than 15 minutes.

I think it would look cute tone on tone as well (meaning the bow would be the same color as the shirt).

Thanks for stopping by.  See you tomorrow for Wake Up Wednesday.

  9. cute! I know you're not exactly reinventing the wheel here by doing a tshirt refashion but somehow this post made me realize that something like this would be the perfect way to deal with a simple longsleeve brown tshirt I have that has a little hole in the back of the neck. Which of course I have NOT just been wearing anyways and hoping nobody would notice because its comfortable and in my closet and fits and i don't have time or money to go clothes shopping right now.
