Feature Friday - beach robes

Before we get started let's announce a couple of winners.

The Cap Creations winner is Wendipooh13 who said:
these are sooo pretty!!! and I LOVE that skateboard one!!! how super cool!!!

We had to pick another random winner for the Jamberry Nails because the winner never contacted me.  Bummer for her.  Our new winner is Erica @ Acire Adventures who said:
Amazing! I want some :)

If you won, drop me an email and we'll get you hooked up.

Alright, on to today's Feature Friday.  So if you sew then I'm sure you're familiar with Dana's blog, Made.  She recently released a pattern for a child's beach robe.  Sweet, huh?

So I tried it out and sewed one for each of my boys.  I love them (well, the robes and the boys)!

They were easy to make, due to Dana's fantastic and very thorough instructions.

Okay, let me go off on a tangent here.  So Dana and my Zumba instructor have something in common.  What?  They both make me feel like I'm a lot cooler than I really am.  In Zumba the instructor looks amazing when she dances.  I feel like I look the same.....until I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror.  Yeah, not so much.  (This is my face when I see what my moves really look like.)

Dana puts out fabulous patterns and makes it all so do-able.  When I follow her instructions I feel like I'm a sewing genius....but I'm not even close.  She just makes me feel like I could sew custom wedding dresses.  Ha!  Anywho, the point is the girl has mad skills.

Otterpops, beach robes....summer is sweet.

Trivia: Does anyone know Rex's favorite color?

Answer: EVERYTHING has to be green in his world.

Okay, this post has been all over the place.  You'd think I'd been stuck in the house for 5 days or something :)  Thanks for all your well wishes.  I'm pretty sure we're all on the way up now.  I'm happy to report that yesterday everyone kept everything down.  Wa-hoo!

So, if you want to feel like a sewing rockstar you can get Dana's pattern HERE.

Thanks for reading.

Awesome Cheri! I am a sewing coward, but I think I'm going to go over and check out what Dana has. My daughter has huge aspirations of becoming a designer. But she needs to know how to sew right? Ugh. I guess it's time to set aside my fears and at least try. Thanks for the tip about Made. I'm heading over now.

P.S. Great job on the robes! They look awesome!

The beach robes came out great! And I am cracking up because I just bought that same polka dot towel from Target. Maybe I should try it....although I am not a sewing genius by any means :)

Oh my gosh! I feel the same way about Dana!! I made her kid pants 2 weeks ago and it was easy as pie. And her blog is just so super cute too.

So glad you all are feeling better!! :0)

We don't have a mirror so I just get to keep livin' the dream. I sent my girlfriend the zumba video for Pitbull - Pause because hi, can we learn from home so we can feel like we are the shiznit when we are in class? yes? we are in. Anyways, I posted it on her wall with the comment "Coincidentally, i look exactly like that when I paaaaaause."
My zumba instructor likes to yell happily at me, apparently I have the hip/knee thing pretty down pat most of the time. Let's pretend that makes up for the fact that I flail my arms around like a lunatic. My little brain can't control all my body parts AT THE SAME TIME!

Where do you find your otter pops? I can't find them in MN, just once in the dollar section at Target.

Hey Stephanie - I got our Otterpops at Costco the other day. I'm not sure where else. I think our grocery store usually has them too.

I recently bought the same polka-dot towel and bias tape to make my little man a beach/pool/fountain robe. Being 25 weeks pregnant with number 2 though, he may not get to enjoy it until next summer. Great job on your cute robes.

You did an awesome job! Dana is pretty talented, but so are you. :)

May I ask how many beach towels you needed for your boys' robes? I need to make 4 robes this weekend and need to know how much to budget.

Hi! I also bought and MADE Dana's beach robe for my little one. You can see it on my blog if you want here: http://craftsformycritter.blogspot.com/. To meganleiann, I thought I'd help you out in case Cheri is still cleaning up puke or otherwise occupied. You need one really big towel or two average sized ones. I did the hooded, short-sleeve version with a bath towel from Target in the 18 mo-3 y size and I had enough for everything except the tie, so I used a white towel I had on hand. Great job, Cheri! Your robes look awesome and I hope you love them on your boys as much as I love them on mine!

I just got all my stuff organized to make these for my punkers too. I just need to do a bunch of prewashing and bias tape cutting/ironing/making...then I'm off and running. Yours came out so well! LOVE them. Awesome job.

i made two of these for my kids, too! i'm still learning how to do this sewing thing, but her pattern was so straight-forward (and photographed steps really make the difference)!
ps: my 7 year old boy thinks everything in his world has to be green as well :)

My 4 1/2 yr old is so much like your Rex! EVERYTHING is green or super-heroes in our house, too!! : )

They look so great!

I am hoping to make four of these for my little guy and his three cousins. Do you mind sharing what sizes you made for your kids? I'm trying to figure out what to do for my 2-year-old and his 3-year-old cousin, and also trying to figure out how much to size up for the almost-5-year-old. It looks like Rex's robe is quite a bit larger than Baden's--is it more than one size bigger?

I guess I should say that the problem is caused by the fact that I don't have access to the cousins for measuring/trying on since they live across the country, so I am driving myself crazy trying to guess.
