Feature Friday - stenciled rug

A couple of months ago Jen and Shelley stenciled some rugs from Ikea.  They were really cute and when the rug in my kitchen recently died, I thought I'd give it a try myself.

I used a houndstooth stencil (from Cutting Edge Stencils) and a can of spray paint.  I thought that if I only painted it white (and left the neutral color) that it would match.....

....my family room curtains, making a nice transition from the family room to the kitchen.

It took about 15 minutes.  Sweet.  I love a quick project.  Spray paint dries so fast that I was able to go from one area to the next with no wait time.  I might spray the tan part light blue when I paint the kitchen the color I want to (but that means waiting until we repaint the cabinets someday.)  So, it's great for now.

Thanks Jen and Shelley for a great idea.  You guys can go check out their rugs HERE.

Thanks for dropping in.

  5. I just made plans to paint a rug for in front of my kitchen sink! Love what you did with yours.
Have you tried washing it yet? I am wondering if it is washable with the spray paint on it.

  9. You should do a post about your brick backsplash, Cheri! I've been looking at some on Pinterest and contemplating how to do it in my new house. Is it real brick or the faux stuff? I would love to know more about it!

  11. Jamie - It's faux and real. It's real brick, but not a full brick. It's just a thinner one, but applied and mortared like really brick. It was in our home when we bought it, so I can't tell you more than that about it. Sorry!

  14. Amanda - I bought the houndstooth fabric at a local store called "Home Fabrics" and my mom sewed some red cording and a border along the bottom.
