Sunshine Sunday - NYC Edition

I thought I'd share some pictures of what my sisters and I did in New York and tomorrow I'll give you the Martha low-down.  I brought my nice camera, but never had the energy to drag it with daily.  We walked so much, so I just ended up using my iPhone instead.

I LOVE NYC!  I'd been there once before when my husband and I got engaged, but I got to see a lot more this time around.

We hit China Town to score a cute knock-off bag for my sister who didn't get to come :(

There was a sweet Lego store at Rockefeller Center.  My boys would have drooled all over the place.

There was a huge Toys 'R Us in Times Square.  I couldn't pass up the opportunity to pose with Ironman.

Here are my sisters in Times Square.  My little sister Cassie is 7 months pregnant and she was such a trooper.  We walked and walked and walked and she was right there with us.  She scored some discounts when she bargained, due to her prego belly.  It was really funny.

She even got a nice present from a bird in Central Park.  So thoughtful :)

There were so many cool buildings to look at.  I should have taken more pictures, but I was too busy looking.

We had hot dogs at the original "Gray's Papaya."  Yum!

We went to M and J Trimming.  My sister took this picture.  I wish I had taken some, but I couldn't pick my jaw up off the floor to take one.  WOW.  That place was incredible.  Billions of trims, buttons, elastics, and everything else crafty.  It was astonishing.

My very favorite part of NYC is the subways!  My sisters would laugh at me because I got so excited to use them.  Thanks for the tip on the Subway app too.  That helped SO much.

There is so much incredible tile/mosaic work in the subways too.  My sister Jodi thought it would be cool to do something like this as a kitchen backsplash.  I agree.  So awesome.

I'll give you the Martha report tomorrow.  It was seriously fun.  My sisters got some sample products in the audience.

Thank you all for sharing your great tips on where to go and what to do.  We had so much fun.  I will live on all the memories for a long, long time.

Thanks for reading.

  1. Oh~!~! NYC is a great place to visit. I have been there twice.. I enjoyed all your pictures. I think it's amazing ~ we have expensive camera's but now a days what do we use? our phones.. Glad you able to make lots of memories and can have that in your memory bank forever..
Ta ta for now from Iowa:)

  2. Oh my word sooooo fun!!! It looks like you are having an awesome time!

  3. Looks like a lot of fun indeed. Can't wait to hear about Martha. I found out the other day that she is 70, can you believe it?

  4. Awesome! We live a few hours from NYC, but we still haven't been there. Maybe this spring. My kids have been dying to get there. I LOVE the picture of your shoe. Ths sticker underneath makes it all the more funny! That trim store is AMAZING! Can't wait to hear all about the show tomorrow!

  5. So fun. I am glad you got to go with your sisters.

  6. looks like you had a blast! I've never been anywhere near NYC. I wouldn't know what to do in trimmings store like that, I'd want to buy one of everything and I'd frantically look for the perfect thing and then grab a few things that were a decent price or that I'd been looking for and then swear to myself i'd come back with a plan...lol!
Bet your boys loved seeing you with Ironman!

  7. I was just there in May but seeing this makes me wanna go back SO bad!! I probably won't for a while, though, because I have other vacations to do first lol

  8. Love that you went to Gray's Papaya. There are many copycats in NYC, all with "Papaya" in their names. Once while I was living there a friend came to visit and asked about one of them: "I wonder what that place has?" "Hot dogs." "Oh, have you been there?" "No. In New York, 'papaya' means 'hot dog.'"

I still remember the total bafflement on his face :-).

  9. I LOVE NYC!!! It's my fav city to visit and I totally agree with you I love the subway. My husband totally disagrees but it just makes the whole experience that much more exciting. Great pictures.

  10. You are so cute! Love your pics. I have to agree with the subway tiles. I've always been a fan. It's been a few years since I have been, but I am always in awe of the place no matter how many times I go. Congrats on the show and can't wait to see it.

  11. I just booked my trip for BlogHer, and am so excited to return to NYC! I've visited several times and am just as giddy each time! Thanks for posting this!

  12. Not that most people pause to think about it, but I'll throw my 2 cents out there anyway: Pretty much all knock off handbags are made in sweatshops. Often, they are staffed by children, and it is not uncommon that they are as young as your own kids. By buying knock off handbags, you are supporting children the ages of your own being forced to work day in and out in horrific conditions, all so women can have a replica of a designer bag.

  13. Miranda,

The bags we bought aren't the real knock off ones that say the fake names, but maybe they are all the same. I don't know. I didn't know what you'd mentioned. I just wanted to buy a bag for my sister who couldn't come on the trip at the last minute due to some big health concerns. She wanted a purse, so we got her one. Thanks for sharing your info with us.

  14. oh man, that lego store looked awesome! And the M & J trimmings looks amazing too. What a fun place. I'm glad you had fun and I can't wait to hear about being on Martha! :)

  15. Awesome, I spend every summer in NYC and did not know there was a subway app! Yay! That will make things easier next time. You learn something new everyday!

  16. What a fun trip! I wish I could do NYC with my sisters. Maybe I should try!

  17. I love that you took the time to explore our city!! We really have so many incredible places to see and things to do!! Can't wait to see and hear more about Martha ;-)

  18. Love those sassy short cuts!!!

  19. Love all the pictures!

I have family in Houston. If you ever get to go there, there is a pretty decent Lego store in the Galleria Mall.

  20. I first got to know your blog through the M&J Challenge. I am so glad I did that!

I am Sooo envious that you got to go visit their store in NYC! I would probably be like you... My jaw will drop to the floor (not to mention drooling)and I wouldn't know where to start. lol

Congrats on the Martha Stewart show, you did fabulous!
