Sunshine Sunday - motherhood my style

I've been a mother now for almost five years.  It has stretched me in a billion different ways.  I think it takes a while to figure the whole motherhood thing out, and while I'm definitely still learning and have a long way to go I feel like in the last year I've kind of gotten a better grasp on it.

You see, there are a lot of different ways to do one thing.  Did you know there are even multiple ways to eat a banana?

At first you kind of think there are these set rules of how to do things properly.  And I happen to be a rule-following person.

But then you realize there's room for YOUR personality in it - your style.  They were given to you for a reason.

I can be me AND mom.  I can trust my instincts.  I can try new things.  I can be more creative about how I teach my boys.

AND I can bring all my passions and interests into the job.  I am a dance instructor.  I am a chef.  I am an artist.  I am a nurse.  I get to be everything I ever dreamed of being.  How great is that?

But the coolest part by far, is that I get to be everything to them.

It's a pretty great job.

And while there are definitely rough days, I think I like this job a little more everyday.

Thanks for reading.

I am also learning this same thing! Thanks. And I didn't realize there were other ways to eat a banana. I am enlightened by your adorable son.

So sweet! Being a mom definitely is something that keeps you learning all of the time. And I have never, ever seen someone eat a banana like that!

In agreement here! glad you wrote, 'I get to be everything I ever dreamed of being.' I'm one who didn't want to be a mom; didn't want to turn out like mine. But deep down, I wanted to be better, to be everything I ever wanted in a mom. AND I AM! I get to be that to my amazing son!

I get to be the winner on 'Dancing with the Stars' and my son is my partner. I get to be an amazing chef with the most gracious critic in the world. I get to giggle in bed at night with my son and not get in trouble! I also get to be a runner-up in 'American Idol' where the judge starts to sing along. I have a band, me on piano, my son on the drums! I have priceless masterpieces of art all over my house! I'm a referee to tackle ball and scooter racing, (secret dream of mine to coach!) AND I live with the tickle-master of the universe. What could be better than that!?

Thanks for the perspective. I needed that!!!!

Love your blog. I love your kindness, your 'realness' and you goodness.

As a mother of 4 5 and under, I was wondering if you would PLEEEEEEEEAAAAASSSEEEE do a 'bonus' post on what you do for/with your kids during general conference? Ive been looking for different ideas- and as you are so creative- and yet still make such an effort to keep focused on what's important, i would LOVE and completely appreciate some ideas! Pretty pretty PRETTY please??? :)

I have never seen a banana eaten that cute.

I was talking with a mother today as we were watching our children do school athletics.

She was commenting that her son is not interested in running or anything athletic, unlike her sporty daughter. I said, I bet he's great at something else, we are all made differently.

I think individuality and being "one of a kind" is one of our most precious gifts.....who doesn't love the feeling of being loved and appreciated for we are, instead of who we "ought" to be.

Hugs xo

LOVE this post! Best quote ever: "I am a dance instructor. I am a chef. I am an artist. I am a nurse. I get to be everything I ever dreamed of being. How great is that?" My kids love it when I turn on the ipod and sing and dance around the kitchen with them. Anyone else would cover their ears and run. But to them, i'm a great singer! :) BTW, my three year old son eats bananas and hot dogs like that!
