Master Bedroom FINAL REVEAL with Chip It!

After a couple of months of pulling things together, the Master Bedroom is finally finished! I am so excited to share it with you. If you recall, here's what it looked like before.

Here was the view to the right.

And here was the view to the left.

Then, if you recall, I chose this color palette, using Chip It!

And ... here's the new look. As you enter the room this is the view. We reconfigured the room, placing the bed on a different wall.

There will be tutorials to follow, but I wanted to let you see the final look all at once. The bed was made from old doors that my sister no longer needed. I had to tweak the color from Nugget to Funky Yellow (by Sherwin-Williams) to match the chairs I found.

The numbers on the doors are our anniversary. The numbers and knobs were purchased at Hobby Lobby. I like minimal pillows on our bed because if there are a lot of them we'll never put them on. The main four are pillows we use, the two striped ones were homemade and the middle one was purchased. The white quilt is from Target, as is the bedskirt.

The nightstands are the same ones from before. I purchased new lamps that I let Rex pick out. (I told you he has great taste for a 5-year-old.) They were a little smaller than I wanted, but I added some of the fabric-covered books I made HERE to give them more height. They match the Aquarium color from the palette really well and the lampshade is in the Solitude color.

The chairs were my starting-off point. I found them at an Overstock outlet for a killer price. The mirror was on sale at TaiPan trading. It was originally black, but I spraypainted it gray.

The table is a used wooden spool I got free at a home improvement store when they were done with it. I gave it a little makeover. I love upcycling and I love free.

The clock to the right was also from TaiPan.

The wall on the other side of the bed has a fun picture collage of our family.

I took pictures and fabric and made some art for the frames. I wanted to hang them in an interesting way, so this is what I came up with.

I also thought it would be funny to have a couple photos of me and Mr. Roar that lined up.

I made the "We're Better Together" art and printed it as a photo. I cross-processed all the photos at about 40% to give them some continuity.

I had to copy the superhero picture idea that I've seen floating around Pinterest. It's so Rex.

The wall across from the bed has the same dresser it always had, but we took down the mirror and got a TV for father's day. Above the TV is a vinyl world map from Vinyl Impression (more on that later). It's extremely hard to photograph this, because it's fairly subtle. I love how it looks in person, but it's hard to get a good picture of it.

The curtains were handmade.

I found this fabric for $3 a yard at Home Goods and I liked the idea of framing each panel with bias tape for a little extra punch of color. (My sweet mom sewed them for me in about 15 minutes. Okay, probably a little longer, but she is crazy fast.)

For the wall color I took Aquarium from Chip It! and chose the palest form from the swatch card, which was Retiring Blue. The wall under the chair-rail is Pure White.

And the room is done! Whenever I finish a room I just want to sit in it all day. I'm currently having my kids bring food up to me so I don't have to leave the room ever. I've been in here for a week now.

Okay, I'm kidding. It has, however, made the room a place we spend more time in now.
The Chip It! tool made it really fun and easy to pick a color scheme for the room. You can get the Chip It! button just like the Pin It button for Pinterest. First you drag the Chip It! button below to your toolbar:
Chip It!

We have one last giveaway to do! Tell me about a room in your home that you'd like to make over using the Chip It! Tool for a chance to win a $1,000 Visa gift card and $200 Sherwin-Williams gift card.

  1. My bedroom, definitely! It seems to be the last room to ever get cleaned and holds all the junk from other rooms that don't have a place in the house.

  4. Your bedroom looks awesome! I love your upcycled spool and you always take the greatest pictures. I would use the giftcard to make over our very dated basement family room.

  5. Love what you've done!! What a nice relaxing place to retreat to! :)

I would do my room...it is the most neglected space in the house. When unexpected guests show up- I tend to quick run down the hall and shut the door. :)

  8. I love how your room turned out! Love the wall color. One thing I thought of after seeing your last picture, have you ever considered painting your ceiling the same color as the walls? I've had an Interior Designer tell me that painting the ceiling adds so much to the room. I think it would look great in your room.

  9. I absolutely love this room...and I love that you got the palette from something other than the normal, picture, quilt, chair etc! that gives me the inspiration to look everywhere! I currently have the itch to make over my living room. I have had an americana theme for YEARS now and I am kinda over it. I bought this picture http://artpassions.com/artists/pauline-eble-campanelli/0000038671-apple-blossoms at a garage sale this weekend and am in LOVE with it. It is huge and was $5. It has me dreaming of new paint and decor and an over all "spruce-up".

  10. I would love to make over my dinning room. I have a hectic busy life with 3 kiddos and at the end of the day as a wind down, I love to come together as a family at the dinning room table and make tons of memories for the children. I would love to make this a fun, and entertaining environment were my children will remember for the rest of their lives and to carry the tradition for their children and my grandchildren in the future. Thanks for the great review it was fun to watch the transformation.

  14. The room looks beautiful. You know on your map of the world you should get aqua and yellow dots then place one color on all of the places you have been and the aqua on all the places you want to go. Subtle but fun. Then while you guys are lying in bed you can talk about your next adventure!

I would love to redo our master bedroom. It is the only room in the house that has not have a major upgrade and it really needs it.

  15. Beautiful room, Cheri! I, too, need to redo my bedroom. I would love the chance to win!

  16. I would love to redo out dining room/play room. Your bedroom looks wonderful!

  17. The room most in need of a make over is the laundry room. With its dark blue wallpaper with all the (not so) cute GEESE, and the antique cabinets precariously hanging off the wall it is the epitome of bad style gone badder.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I love your upcycled spool and yellow doors for the bed. I would love to make over my bedroom. I got a new bedspread but so much more needs to be done.

  19. I love you master bedroom! I would love to use chip to make over my master bathroom. We moved in 3 years ago and I still haven't done anything to it. It's rather boring right now!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I adore the vinyl! Great job, and thanks for the recommendations to use chip it!

  21. This turned out amazing!!! i love the headboard!!!! After seeing this, I definitely need to do my bedroom. it is the only room not done in the house. i have been looking at builder white walls and sticky residue on the ceiling from the previous owners' glow in the dark stars for 5 years. i think i am going to go get some paint swatches today!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I would love to makeover our master bedroom too! It's been the last room to get any attention and it sure looks like it! ChipIt would be a great help!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Great colors! These are close to the colors we used in our bedroom as well, I love yellow, grey and blue!

We just moved into a new house and, while I'm earnestly trying to customize each room, I'm running out of money and time before our next baby arrives! I think I would give my middle son's room a makeover, since he gets hand-me-down everything. It would be nice to give him something new for once.

  24. My daughters room just burned in a fire. It was small but they still had to strip it down to the studs. Aaah! Nightmare!!! I'm an artist but also a tomboy. My daughter is not. She's 5 and as girly as they come. She is sad and I wanna do something special. I'm trying to go off a piece of fabric that I have. My hubby is getting up the drywall and the time is closing in fast. I'm relieved that there's Chip It. This is the first I've heard of it. So I have a clean canvas..... Scary! Hahaha. I wish I could send pics of the room to get your ideas. Vaulted ceilings. Cozy. ....

  27. I would probably do our family/playroom. It is seriously in a sad sad state. We have picture frames on the wall with no pictures, and it's just so cluttered with a clash of furniture and toys.

    ReplyDelete
  28. My kitchen needs a makeover... we've been talking about doing the makeover since we moved in (6 YEARS AGO)! It is in desperate need of some more modern/contemporary features, but kitchens are so expensive!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Your room is amazing. I love the photo wall - it's sweet and homey, but extra cool to me with the arrangement. And the spool? I don't know where I would put one, but now I want one!! :D

I would use the winnings to re-do my son's room. We've been in a western/Toy Story/Woody bedroom for way too long. He's outgrown it for sure. We're hoping to move to Star Wars next with a more sophisticated take so it'll last a long time!

Thanks for the chance to win!!

  30. Definitely my bedroom! It is by far the most neglected room and needs a lot of help!

  31. I love the use of yellow, it is my favorite color! I am always nervous to use yellow because it is a strong but your room is wonderfully balanced. I would love to win. We just bought a house (but have yet to move in.) I have only boys and one of the bedrooms is purple with big butterflies painted all over the walls. I would love it make it into the perfect boy room. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home.

  38. I would like to makeover our master bedroom too. It needs some loving!

  39. We're moving into a new house this fall, so really I could use it on EVERY room in the house! But if I had to pick just one, I'd say the living room. The carpet is blue and we won't have the funds to replace it, so I feel like the chip-it tool would/will be handy to help me find options that will look good with that color.

Your room looks amazing, by the way! I think the doors are my favorite part. If I were you, I'd want to spend all my time in there too :-)

  40. Your room looks awesome!I love following your blog, you have such wonderful ideas. If I won I would totally redo our bedroom, the boys both just had theirs redone.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ooh, I could do so much more than one room with $1,000! But, I'd definitely start in our bedroom. It's so neglected because no one else ever sees it, even the kids' room is decorated better than ours! We're thinking a gray, yellow and white palette. I'd LOVE to create a peaceful oasis for us to retire to at the end of the day:)

  49. My little girls toy room! It also seconds as a "homework area" for my older kids, being as their computer & desk is in there. I literally have one thing (a wooden angel that I don't really love) hanging. I would love to give my girls a room that inspires imagination and a hip, tween desk area for my jr. high kids! =]

  51. I love your redo! The doors for the headboard with the anniversary date numbers, the bright binding on the curtains and the spool table are all very creative ideas that look fabulous!

I would love to turn our current "playroom" into a family room. The carpet is horrible so I have large area rugs to cover the worst spots. The furniture is secondhand and in really bad shape and the walls are a very plain white. Sadly, there's really no "play" going on in the playroom.

  53. My master bedroom could definitely use some help! Right now the walls are painted a really dark green and it affects the mood. I would use chip it to choose colors that accent the rest of the house and give the space a lighter more calming feeling! I LOVE your space I too would never leave!!! I adore the recycled table and the fun funky chairs. Isn't it so fun when things come together so nicely. Great Job as always Cheri!

  60. We just decided yesterday that we wanted to repaint the house this upcoming winter. Like the living room, kids rooms, hallway, our bedroom, and man cave. Oh, and I would love to repaint my laundry room. It is a weird pale brown/pink color. I want it pale yellow. Paint and trim. I would love to win! Thanks!

  61. Your room looks so relaxing.

I would paint our entire downstairs. We built our house in 2005 and it still has white walls. The open floor plans terrifies me so much that I am a wimp and do nothing. I think ChipIt is just what I need to get started.

My Living room/dining room would be the makeover room ... it is one open space, which I like, but at this moment we have ONE LARGE wall with not much life to it ...I want to add the color to the large wall and I have wonderful art to hang and a sweet hand me down hutch in a mustard yellow to compliment ... just needing some inspiration, which the Chip It has/will help tremendously!!

  78. I love your new bedroom! There are so many cute ideas!! My favorite is the use of doors for the headboard! It's also cute that you used the numbers of your anniversary! I would love to redo my bedroom! When I married my husband, 17 years ago, I inherited his bedroom. He already owned a house. We've redone several rooms but not this one. It had big, heavy dark furniture. There's also ugly blue carpet in the room. One of our cats used the post of the bed as a scratching post! I dream of the day when I have a sanctuary as lovely as yours!

The room is an open concept room, with all 3 rooms flowing into the same space, so I am intimidated to make these rooms over and choose an overwhelming color. However I think I will have to use the chip-it tool on a piece of scrapbook paper that I fell in love with - light yellow and dusty blue paisley, with hints of tan and brown!!!

It was started (2) years ago then our daughter hit a rough patch in her marriage and moved back home. Helping her has put our room to the bottom of the list ......again. If you can believe this last tid-bit....my husband is a painter by trade and used Sherwin Williams products almost exclusively......and I'm the last on the list to get paint.

  108. that looks beautiful, btw! not only do u want to hang out in the room forever but they stay really clean and tidy too!!!

if i could re-do any room it would probably be my living room. i want it light and airy, barely a tint of gray/white walls, my vintage furniture collection. but id really like to do the whole sha-bang and rip up the ugly carpet, scrap the popcorn ceilings and put up drywall instead of painted paneling. -le sigh- in time, right?!?!

  112. My living room/dining room/office! It's a big L-shaped room, so we use it for all 3 of those designated spaces. It's too bland and uninspiring right now, so I would LOVE to redo it all! :) Your room is absolutely GORGEOUS!

  113. Your bedroom looks fantastic! I am in love with the spool (brings back happy childhood memories from my grandparents' house) and the vinyl map. Oh and the color scheme is great, too! As far as a room to makeover, I think I would choose our master bedroom as well. We've been working on the rest of the house to the neglect of our room, which right now is a catch-all for all the furniture and accessories we can't use elsewhere. :)

  119. I'd really like to makeover my boys' room. We recently moved out of state and the boys now have to share one room, but they've always had their own rooms. Its been quite a challenge fitting them both in there & making it feel like they each have their own personal space.

  125. I would do my family room... it is the most used and would probably benefit the most!

  126. As soon as I saw the numbers I wondered if it was your anniversary! We have an attic that is destined to become our bedroom, just as soon as we can get the climate control part taken care of! Love your new look!

  127. I would love to redo our playroom / office / dinning area. We live in a small house and this mulituse room is used all day long fro many purposes.

    ReplyDelete
  128. My husband and I are buying a house and will be moving in soon. I can't wait to decorate but the room I can't wait for the most is my Kitchen! That's the heart of the home in my opinion and I just want it to be full of life and color

    ReplyDelete
  129. We have an offer in on a house and if it goes through, I'll be using ChipIt for every room in the whole house!

    Thanks :)

  130. You did a great job. I love the doors and the color palette.

Now, for me, I would love to redo one of my boy's rooms into a room for a baby girl. Before I can do that, I need to convince my husband that we need another child, and then he has to produce the goods that make the baby a girl! I'm almost there...hopefully by the end of the summer we'll be trying, and it won't take 22 months like the last time!

  143. I'm switching my daughter to my boys room so I've been trying to think of how to redecorate a cute room for my daugther. The boys currently have barn red shutters screwed into their walls next to the window. They look amazing with the cowboy theme, but I don't think my daughter will go for that. I don't want to repaint the shutters, just tie them in for a girly style. I would definitely use the funds to makeover her new room!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Love it!! Especially the yellow doors as your head board.
I would do our living room. It is in need of an update. :)

  158. What does it mean to cross-process the photos at 40%?

I'd love to re-do our bedroom, too. We have a duvet cover that i love, an old bedroom set that I like just fine, and the curtains that matched the comforter of the former homeowners. Hideous.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Definitely my living room! Such an awkward mismatch of furniture and I have a beautiful Chinese fan that would make the perfect Chip It inspiration.

    ReplyDelete
  160. LOVE it! You are so talented. My little family just moved to a new place and the living room is SIGNIFICANTLY larger than the one we had before, so our stuff only fills up a tiny corner of the room and it makes me sad every time I go in there. It could definitely use a makeover! :)

  167. I would love to do our big family room downstairs. Its the room that i wish we would spend more time in, but we haven't had the funds or the right inspiration to do yet. I hope i get picked and then maybe my hubby and i can come to an agreement on the color scheme! ;)

  168. Our kitchen! It's still so stock, with next to no personality. It needs some serious spice!

    ReplyDelete
  169. Oh my goodness! Since we're moving this week into our new home it is all a blank canvas! I can't wait to get started...except we spent our money buying a house so now we will be saving for awhile to do what I want to each room. I would start with the family room or master bedroom. Thanks!! LOVE your room, so amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  170. My bathroom! I'd love to transform it into a spa retreat at home!

    ReplyDelete
  171. My husband uses one of our three bedrooms as the office for his business. It used to be a screened in porch and is now an office/storage room. Now that we have a second child we would love to make the room truly functional as an office as well as turn it into a kids room and make it possible to store all that STUFF somewhere!

    ReplyDelete
  172. My kitchen/dining area needs love and attention! I'd love it be a place my family loves to be. Beautiful room! I love the curtains, I'm trying that pop of color for mine. Also love the chairs and the doors and the whole look!

    ReplyDelete
  176. My daughter's room needs some color. She just moved up to a twin bed from a toddler bed and now that we have bedding to match, it is time to add color to the walls. I can't wait to get started!

    ReplyDelete
  177. I would love to redo our bedroom. It has been half painted complete w patched nail holes for 10 months! Most of our furniture isstill in the basement since we thought we were going to paint right after we moved in but with 3 kids, the br got pushed onto the back burner.
So for now, my husband just piles ALL of his clothes in the corner and our shoes are piled up on our bookshelves.we dont have any pics up or anything. It looks like a dorm room complete with mismatched sheets. Its always fun to have friends and family over since the master bath is also the guest bath so everyone has to tramp through the bedroom to get to the bathroom! It is a mess.
Ive played around with chip it before and have a few things in mind that would provide the perfect palette for the bedroom! Thanks!

  178. I would definately have to say my bedroom! We really lucked out because our bedroom also has a little sitting room/retreat so the retreat area, with the built-in entertainment center is where the bed is.....the actually bed area is where my craft area (which currently has cobwebs on it due to obtaining an actualy job YEAH!!!!) is. I would love to get some curtains, different paint maybe, some CEILING FANS!!! better craft area furniture blah blah blah.....oh how I would love to win!! btw, the map area, you can total see it in the picture, way too cool!! Can you come over to my house and remake my house for me? Thanks!!

  180. I would love to work on my two sons' rooms. I have a 17 month old and his little brother is due in another month. The hubs and I have been googling extensively for fun ideas for kids rooms and it's been so difficult. We can't decide on a proper color, we can't decide on wall decor or whether or not an accent wall should be used. It's been extremely difficult! I would love for them to both have rooms with character, a place that encourages creativity and learning and allows them to be individuals as well. Using the Chip It! tool would be a great start to finally figure out a color scheme for the rooms! :)

    ReplyDelete
  188. Cheri I have no idea where to start. You room is fabulous. Those chairs are fantastic. The lamps? Way to go Rex! The curtains? A+ The mirror, spool and pillows? To die for. My absolute favorite has to be the door headboard. I am trying to convince my husband to do the same...I have been for TWO years, but he is not grasping the concept. Maybe after I show him this, he will finally be convinced! My father in law has two antique doors in his barn that are all mine!! I would love to finally be able to put them to use!

Chip it would be so much fun to use in my kitchen. It needs drastic updating, but I have no idea what color palette to use!
