Tomorrow I'm guest posting somewhere, so we're making today Feature Friday. I have to admit that when I see an idea done in a ton of places I often don't want to follow the crowd. Call me a snob, but when everyone's doing it I like to choose not to.
However, there are rare moments that I just can't help myself. This is one of them. You know how everyone has made cake stands and tiered dishes from candles stick holders at the dollar store? I'm doing it too! I couldn't fight the cuteness anymore. It's easy and inexpensive and fun. It kind of makes me want to throw a party.
I don't even know who I should attribute the idea to, because I've seen it all over. I bought a few candles stick holders and plates, sprayed them pale turquoise and glued them togther. I haven't decided if I should permanently glue them like this....
...or if I'd get more use out of them like this.
I saw the jars HERE on Eighteen25 the other day. I added a little vinyl to mine and I need to make a couple more still. Kind of fun, huh?
All of that cost $8 (including the stuff to make 2 more jars.) I think that's pretty cheap for a full party set-up. They'd be fun for a tea party or a baby shower or pretty much any event. Have you made some too? I'd love to see them. Feel free to link yours up in the comment section. Thanks for reading.
These look amazing! Such a simple idea but so great. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteCute! You did a great job!

Love the jar on a candlestick very cute. What kind of glue did you use? Permanent vs not.
ReplyDeleteCall me boring, but I'm just glad to see the white plates - I have a stash and would like to increase it - I like these, and you can't beat the price! Thanks! (looking forward to the finished craft too, by the way) :)
ReplyDeleteThese are my fav thing to make! I did some for my little one's birthday party! Those look awesome with the white against the teal.
ReplyDeleteSo cute...its been so long since I've gone thrifting!
ReplyDeleteOh My..I have not seen the jars- too cute!
ReplyDeleteThis cracked me up. I've been trying to resist making tiered stands, too...but keep seeing cute plates that are begging me to go for it. I like that you kept your coloring simple. And a great price, too! :)
ReplyDeleteYou could bring them for my bridal shower! :)
ReplyDeleteI was wondering about what kind of glue you used as well.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how stable they are without being glued together but if you can avoid gluing them I think that would be easier for clean up. Leaving them unglued and then you can always change the way they are arranged.
ReplyDeleteMandi and Summer - I used liquid nails and it worked well. It's less than $3 too.

Soo cute! I can totally see a party with those there. Maybe a couple of them in varying heights.
ReplyDeleteDollar store?
Very cute!
ReplyDeleteI may have to forward this idea to my friend whose throwing me my 1st baby shower in a few weeks!

Cute projects. If you don't want to permanently glue them together but do want them stacked for a party use QuakeWax. Or a similar product. Then you can undo them when want them single again.
ReplyDeleteI love these cake stands! I love how you can customize them for any theme or color scheme for really cheap!
ReplyDeleteAfter making them, I recommend not gluing the three together. It's so much more versitile that way. Then if you want to tier them up, use hot glue on the bottom of the candlestick. This holds them together through the party, but then you can seperate them and just peel the glue off later.
That's what I did here when I made my cake pop/marshmallow stand. I used chargers and upside down soda glasses for more room.

And I have a bunch more waiting to get done. I'm planning on giving them to my kid's teachers for their end of the year thank you gift.
Oh and yours look great! Love the blue.
They look great. So I think you should leave them as they are. Much more versatile. Keep up the good work.

Which dollar store did you get this stuff from?
ReplyDeleteI saw this and loved it!!! It would be great for an engagement or rehearsal dinner!! Can we say TIFFANYS!!!?? love it
ReplyDeleteI read this at work today and couldn't comment. But my favorite part was this: Call me a snob, but when everyone's doing it I like to choose not to...Perfectly Stated! My sister and I feel this way ALLL the time. We just like to be a tad different:) Just really made me giggle the way you put it, And I like the plates you chose, the beading is fancy schmancy and kicks it up a notch.
ReplyDeleteOh and I think keeping them as separate pieces maybe easier to store?
ReplyDeleteI love these!
ReplyDeleteThese inspired me, I had to try it. I wanted my glue to be temporary, so I used... (are you ready for this)... corn syrup!

Mrs. G - I got the plates and candlestick holders from Dollar Tree. The holders were clear to begin with, so make sure you're looking for that. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteCheri

ReplyDeleteI made some for my sisters for Christmas! I LOVE the jars though.... I haven't seen those yet! I'll have to make some more of these for my friends baby shower soon :)
