What's Really Going On Here....

So you might have noticed that things have been slowing down here a little.  And I feel that as friends, I should tell you why.  You see, I've been letting a whole lot of things fall through the cracks around here.  Here's the holding-back-nothing truth.

My house looks like a bomb went off.  And then another bomb.

My kids have eaten more Lunchables in the last month than any child ever should.

I have returned very few emails.

My laundry is a mess I just can't keep up with.

I leave the house very rarely and when I do you'd probably catch me with an unfriendly look on my face.

Now, you're probably thinking, "Dude, what's your problem?"  And it actually isn't a problem.  Now you're thinking I'm in denial.  Ha!  It's all actually a blessing....which I'm trying to remind myself.  Because something I have wanted for a very, very long time has finally happened for us.

We are pregnant.

(Baden has recently taken up pretending that he is, too.)

Many of you probably know that we've been trying for what felt like a very long time.  And so many of you shared your touching and challenging experiences with me, which was so kind and helpful.  I'll give you the whole fertility story soon, if you want details.

But in case you come here and wonder why I'm not posting everyday, that's why.  I've been really sick for over a month now.  I'm a little past 9 weeks, which is kind of early to be telling, but I'm not good with secrets when they're mine.  And that's the story.

Thanks for hanging with me.

  24. Congratulations! I'm a follower too and know the struggle you mention with pregnancies! Children are such blessings! :-)

My advice - let the house go! ha ha Take up on some offers from friends to help! It is one of those things as super moms we don't want to do - but do it! :-)

    Best wishes!

  25. Congratulations, Cheri. I know you've been waiting for this and I'm glad it has happened! I hope you feel better soon. I can totally relate - I get very sick for the first 20 or so weeks and the only relief I have at all is from Unisom/B6. Good luck over these coming weeks; I can't wait to follow your journey.

  29. Wonderful, wonderful news, Cheri. Blinking back the tears (-: Number three was a pregnancy of sickness for me in those early months. I was showing from day one, constantly feeling like anything consumed was on its way back up, and zonked out on the couch from an apparently inexhaustible fatigue. So, rest and rejoice. Let the dust bunnies play and the laundry pile up. And if my third pregnancy taught me anything, it was to be humble enough to ask for and accept help -- and I have some pretty fantastic neighbours, who really stepped in to pick up and take care of my wee beasties. Congratulations again, take care and God bless!

  41. Yeah!!! It took several years to get pregnant with our 3rd and although we really, really wanted another child (and still do want more), I kept thinking I'm too old for this, I don't know how I did it before. But after it's all over and that baby is in your arms you quickly forget all the laziness and sickness. Wishing you all the best. So happy for you guys! Oh, and I get plenty of sleep now and feel great, so I really have no excuse for the state of my messy house.

  82. Congrats! As a mom of 3 - I can say being pregnant with small kids at home - is more mentally and physically exhausting than you can imagine until you are in that boat. *chuckling* Was I ever so happy to have kids who are content to wear PJ's the whole day sometimes. As long as the garbage was taken out and there were snacks and clean clothes for the kids - nothing else hit the priority list for me- let it slide. You and your health and mental health are more important. :) Those boys of yours will be a delightful help- well at some point in their lives. (I have 2 boys *grin* and they are delightful non helpers more than helpers - but they give me lots of laughs!)

  91. Oh yay!!! Congratulations, so so happy for you! I don't know you in person but I've been following your blog for quite a while. I grinned ear to ear at this news (and laughed out loud at Baden's cute prego picture (he's even got his hand just above his bum like we so often do for pregnant pictures heehee). I had my 3rd baby almost 6 months ago, and I don't know if I'll ever be caught up on the laundry and housecleaning again, but oh, he is such a blessing to have :)

I hope the all-day-sickness and just-been-hit-by-a-truck-lack-of-energy ease up for you soon!

  96. Congratulations Cheri! That is such wonderful news! I was sick with all four of mine and I know exactly what you are going through. Each time, I thought the sickness would never end. I felt like I would never get back to feeling good again, but it always got better eventually. Just remember that it WILL get better and then you will have another blessed little angel! So happy for you!

  97. Oh girl, ask your Dr. about Zofran. I took it during all four of my pregnancies and it saved me. There's even a generic version now. I was told about it by a lovely woman during Primary one Sunday when I was green with morning sickness.

Also, chocolate milk is awesome when your tummy is upset (this sounds gross, but the best part is that it tastes the same both directions -I know when I was pregnant sick I would consider the after effects of eating something before I ate it-cottage cheese is nasty BTW -chocolate milk is your friend!!)

  106. Oh congratulations! We tried for a long time with this current baby (and likely our last) and as soon as I was pregnant I was both overjoyed and so so sick. It is so hard to remind yourself that it was something you wanted so desperatley when you are so sick you just want it to end. I only have 5 weeks left and I still have to remind myself how much I wanted it. Babies are great, children are wonderful but man oh man growing them can be the pits (and a total blessing) Good luck! I hope you feel better soon!

  152. Aw, I'm so excited for you I'm blinking away tears. I hope your super-sickies wear off and you feel just crappy enough to not feel worried, and then super fantastic and energetic, and then gently hit that point where labour starts to sound more fun than continuing to be pregnant. And may colds and flus evade your house entirely! :) Ah, I'm just so happy for you!

  153. Congratulations! I know that I for one will not bash or complain about the slowing down of posts. Enjoy this time (even through the sickness)! Praying that the sickness will subside very soon! :) I am currently about 15 weeks along with our second child.

  154. Congratulations! I'm pregnant with my third and it was the hardest first trimester, and I was in survival mode and didn't blog or cook or anything all summer. It was weird not to create anything for months or to feel like I wanted to.

How exciting and hope the second trimester will be easier!

  155. Congratulations! We're about as far along, with our #3 too. My kids listen to way much more TV I'd like to, but I've been really sick as well!

  163. Congratulations! From experience: Kids and house will survive. It may take till the youngest is 18 or so for the house, but important things first... I had 5, sick through 3, really sick for the whole time with 1. We all made it and they are now moms and dads on their own.

We will look forward to more stories and the progress.

  164. Congratulations! I know that that sickness is miserable...I hope you start to feel better soon!

  166. Congratulations! I am pregnant too. For the first three month I didn't even want to LOOK at a computer. I associated it with nausea. So I don't blame you! Take it easy.

This (all that sickness and weakness) too shall pass...

PS- You met my friend, Leslie, over the summer when she visited her mom (Mrs. Olsen, from your church). We're the ones in Maryland. Too bad there wasn't a way to make that sound less stalker-ish. I swear- we're not weirdos.

  180. Congratulations!!! As someone who waited 5yrs to be pregnant with my last. It sucks to be sick even if you wanted it. Hope you feel better soon. Constant snacking is the only thing I have found to help, and yes I do mean constant :) Now my baby is 6mo and I'm still trying to break the habit, but it was worth it to feel a little better. Feel well soon--hope all goes well.

  181. Also my house has the same bomb after a tornado feel--I like to think it's not just me. :)

  190. Cheri,
I have been a reader for at least a year now. I read every post. Not everyday, but I catch up when I have time. I've commented a few times, but for the most part I stay quiet. I just wanted to tell you congratulations, and let you know that I have thought of you and wondered how you were doing with trying to conceive. I'm so happy it finally happened for you! Best wishes for a healthy 40 weeks!

  191. Cheri, congratulations! I am so excited for you! I have been thinking about you and wondering if that was what was going on. I know I don't know the details of your fertility issues, but my hubby and I have been going through very similar issues. We have a little girl who (I think) is just a couple months older than Baden. We have been trying to get pregnant again for about 2 years with no luck. We have had 2 miscarriages and numerous sad months. Coincidentally, tomorrow we have an appointment with a reproductive endocrinologist. I am anxious to see what we find out. And look forward to hearing about your journey if you are willing to share.

  192. Congrats, Cheri! I have horrible first and second trimesters in pregnancy. We found out on New Years Day that we were expecting our 2nd. A week or so later I wrote on my little blog that I was taking a two week break. I didn't give a reason or anything. Then, I felt so sick, passionless, and tired that I abandoned the blog for the entire pregnancy. I am impressed that you're able to do anything, even if it's in a limited capacity. Congrats to you and your family. Hope you'll start to feel better!
