Mommy School in Action - part 7

We are still rockin' and rolling with mommy school around here.  It's helped our summer go by a bit more smoothly.  The boys look forward to it and I do too.  It's really a simple thing and sometimes as short as 15 minutes, but it makes a big difference for us.  So here are our top 3 activities from Mommy school this week.

1) Mini Volcanoes.  I found this idea on Preschool Alphabet HERE (via HERE on Pinterest).  It's super simple and fun.  You just spread baking soda on a cookie sheet.  Then put vinegar in cups with a little food coloring.

Then you drop a little of the vinegar over the baking soda and watch it fiz up.

The boys liked this one a lot so we did another round of it after we fizzed the first entire cookie sheet of it.

2) Goldfish Graphing and fish making.  We printed off the Goldfish Graphing from Alison at Oopsey Daisy HERE.  This was beyond Rex, but he still liked it because he could help Baden figure out how to do it.  We graphed the fish and then ate them.

Then to end things on a fish note, we made some fish out of a paper plate.  (You know, the way every kid in preschool makes them?)  They decorated them.  Rex's got covered in superhero stickers - the only cool way to decorate them in his mind :)  Baden was pretty happy with just the googley eye.

3) Number stamping.  We got this idea for Pre-K Pages HERE, where they used a gingerbread man with numbers in it.  I drew a Captain America shield instead and put the numbers 1-6 on the page twice.  For Rex (5) I had him draw all his own numbers and I drew Baden's for him.  Then they shook the dice, counted the number is landed on, and stamped the number on their page.

I had them do it until all the numbers were covered.  You could make it a race or game, but I didn't want it to be a contest for them.  This was a great activity for Baden, since he's still working on recognizing all the numbers.  You could use letters and just call out the letters to him as well (since the dice wouldn't work).

And that's the best of Mommy school for this week.  Somedays we just get out little workbooks I found in the dollar bin at Target if we're pressed for time.  However, the activities are by far their favorite.

Thanks for stopping by.

These ideas are excellent. My fam is doing our first Science experiment tonight, my youngest son had the "honor" of research, preparing the list for supplies and he's actually pretty excited, which is huge cause he don't get excited about much at 13. We're using Steve Spangler, I think that's his name. Happy Friday!

Cheri, just wanted you to know that thanks to you we have now enjoyed the water marbles and the volcanoes, and both were a huge hit with my son. I just blogged about them, too, and gave credit to you. ;) Thanks for always having a collection of awesome ideas!
